I had the same prob yesterday and my galaxy is less than 2 days old. Mine went away after charging for about an hour.
Also try clearing the cache for your apps that also seems to help.

Go to setting,applications,manage and select each app and then select clear cache

If all else fails, clear cache and reset factory settings from Recovery mode...

After all the suggestions above (thanks!), I took the phone in to MTN. They didn't even know what the Galaxy looks like! But I did a sim swap (suggestion on another site) to a 3G card and problem seems to be sorted (touch wood!) :)
