Hey guys, im thinking of upgrading my computer but not sure if it would be worth all the expense, My question: How much better performance could I expect from my new PC and is it worth it? I am a gamer, not that hardcore but i do like to play online.
Here my old setup:
AMD athlon xp 2800+ barton
Gigabyte 7VT600 Mb
1GB 333 DDR
Sapphire Radeon 9600XT 256
+/- 12500 3dmark01 pts
Proposed new setup:
AMD athlon 64 3200+
Gigabyte nForce4 K8NXP
1GB DDR 400(2x512)
Gigabyte geforce 6600gt 128
Any suggestions welcome:
thanks...

I think if it were me I would take the money and save some more to get the 3500+ and a 6800GT/7800GT. The jump in performance from the 6600GT to one of those will be pretty big. The 6600GT is still a great card but if you can save for a 6800GT you will not regret it.

yeah if i could pick up a 6800gt for cheap enough i will probly go for it.BUT for the moment the above setup stands, it worth it compard to my currnt system?

Yeah - it will give u a good increase in performance compared to your current setup.
However I would wait for the Geforce 6800GT to come down in price.

Yep everything looks good, just 6800GT would be much better. The 3200+ is also fine but if you can maybe save a bit and get the 3500+ it will also give you that bit extra. If not I would say get the 6800GT and the 3200+.
Even the system above will give you a pretty good increase in performance over your current system.

deffintly get the new system, firstly the price dif between the 3200+ and 3500+ is like R200, well at least that is the difference for what i sell them at. Secondly, i have a chaintech 6600GT 128mb etc etc and i am loving it, for the price it is deffintly worth it, however, games are getting more demanding and the 6600 is now starting not to pull of everything on HIGH as i like it, i would reccomend you to get the 6800 but..... the price difference is almost like a grand.... so i rate you get the 6600GT.

Yip, as is, with the 6800GT swop and (maybe) more RAM. Old setup will do nicely as a 2nd gaming (inhouse lan) pc

ummm also your ram is to little try for 1.5 gig or higher
i would do this if i was you
dont buy the 6600 gt the 6800 gt's not far off
why not go with amd 3000+ and 6800 gt
not much performance diff between 3200 and 3000 but a big price difference

3000+ overclock very nicely with upgraded cooling, check for prices on the ATI Radeon X800XL, as that will do very well against any of the 6600 or 6800 series graphics cards

I dont know the price of the X800XL but I have heard the are not that badly priced. What I do know is that the X800XL is a great card. Pretty much as good as the 6800GT and faster in things like HL2. Really a verry good card.
And this is from and Nvidia Fanboy :D

I'm an ATI kid aswell currently on 9600 pro, sad i know but had ATI ever after old geforce 2 ruled... So is the X800XL the best to get in the range at the moment? The new ATI's have been holding me back as they definately are too expensive wats the price 4 that X800XL?
Off da topic (of helping sumone else) but anyone know of the price for the new X1000's? saw a review on tomshardware.com, apparently kick the 7800GTX! just the price I'm worried about new cards all so damn expensive

Firstly, they dont kick the GTX's secondly they are too expensive for what you get. The best SUPER performance cards to buy right now are the 7800GTX's

The X1800xt does kill a GTX plus it is easy to overclock and it has got some other cool feature which I cant remember
