There seem to be a tendancy by members to post a remark or statement and then after some debate delete or edit all his postings. The thread is then incoherent and may lead to the impression for example of TELKOM bashing as the post that spawned the debate is suddenly gone or altered. It may be a employee overstepping his authority and then remove the evidence and play the innocent. Can post deletion/edit be stopped in VB? if someone wants to delete/edit a post he have to justify it with the moderators and then the complete thread needs to be removed or a edited version of the post remains indicating the original content or intent.
I have deleted bad posts as well in the past and edited for spelling or to clear a misunderstanding, but a repost and apology would have sufficed and spelling can be done before posting as a habit

I don't think this is too good a idea; a lot of times i post things only to notice spelling mistakes/repeated words after the fact and thus edit to fix the post.

I can understand that you want to kind of force a person to be accountable for his actions etc etc; but if that person says something and then changes his mind on the subject he should be allowed to change his post.

It is bad though when that person started the thread though and it evolves and then the 1st item gets squashed throwing the whole thread out of context.

Maybe a compromise of a grace period after a post is made of maybe; oh I don't know 1-2 days should be allowed where a poster may "modify" his post without permission from a mod/admin would be a compromise solution to the problem.

Highly unlikely that this would come to fruition pupa. Vio does have a good solution but there are sometimes very good reasons for people to edit posts ranging from updates to informative posts and spelling or wording changes.

Please notify us of instnaces where you think a person is being vindictive or deliberately trying to damage a thread.

Yeah I understand, so what I will do in future if I suspect something I will quote the person for sake of retaining the kernel comment

I would have thought for update the person can repost a edit ?

Thanx anyway

Leave my tutu alone. Which one did you see? The pink one or the blue one? :D I am leaning to the blue one as the prettiest.

Does this mean I can still edit and add to all the posts where I forgot to mention that telkom sucks?

a stunning example of this scenario (and how it was solved) is www.xbox-scene.com

make a post, edit a post within 15 minutes, all ok...after that the post is frozen. So spelling mistakes can be corrected, or if the user had a bit of a cooling off they can alter any harsh words, but once it is 15 minutes old the post is frozen in time. And the system works.

Excellent solution. Again Antowan won’t bite. It bugs me that M@D can remove the posts I want to have as evidence for the court case coming his way soon. I am suing him for lack of defamation Hehe. Just to find someone to pay for it?? Hmmm I have a idea but Telkom wont bite

:D LG replacing *all* his posts with a "." last year comes to mind. Screwed up a lot of threads and flooding the "New Post" list

That really is the simplest solution - use the quote button (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/images/buttons/quote.gif) - that's why vBulletin provides you with a quote button (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/images/buttons/quote.gif) :).
I use it daily, I think what somone suggested is good

Lock posts after x minutes for editing
Updates can be done with a repost

This would cut out a lot of issues and keep threads coherent

An LG post with less than 10 million characters, surely though dost jest? :D No sire, this servant is an honest man and does not speak with forked tongue (hmm, serious culture clash there :)) /hint : search for LG's posts in MyWireless General older than October 2004 ;)
