Hi, Im looking for a Wifi router to plug the E173 dongle into, something like the following:

Aztech HW550-3G
or
Netcare MBR624
or
any other suggestions?

Anyone with experience of doing this, and any ideas how to issue the *188# USSD command and read the SMS response so I can check my balance regularly?

Thks in advance..

Have you considered getting HUAWEI E960 or an Option GlobSurfer III?
They are dedicated 3G devices with build in Wi-Fi
Or do you need an imbedded ADSL modem also?

No ADSL modem required. It would be nice to not have to boot up a PC to drive the 3G connect in order to do a quick mail/FB whatever on the iPod touch. In other words a standalone device with a connect button would be good. I used to use my Nokia E51 running Joikuspot on Vodacom data, but Im using 8ta now and I need the phone for my MTN voice contract. I guess I could just buy a small MTN data bundle for the phone for the occasional ipod access via Joiku, or get another phone to free up the E51 and commit it to 8ta, just exploring the options at this stage.

You mean Netgear MBR 624. The MBRN3000 is the upgrade to the former. It supports the E170 but the E173 is not listed. Also try TP Link Routers.

Opppss that spell at one of Netcare's finest must have messed with my head!

Thanks for the link, we need one of these for 8ta.

The Cell C’s D105 looks like just the thing, do you think it will work with 8ta data?

Depends on the modem model you use. Can't find any specs on it on the net to c which modems it supports. I do know that it supports Cellc's HSPA+ modems.

this baby perhaps?
http://www.dbg.co.za/product_info.php?products_id=423
TP-LINK MR3420 3G WIRELESS N ROUTER

would i be able to connect this baby to my PC, and have a faster Wired (vs wireless) link to the modem
and then use the wireless just for the galaxy tablet?

Yes but your connection speed will still depend on the isp and some other factors, your local network will however be consideranly faster.

Just got given this one. Works well, except, it doesnt have the the isp settings for 8.ta, so I'm connecting using the cell c settings. It seems slower than using the modem (e173) directly. Im using the 2gb + 1gb deal btw.
Cheers, thanks
