Is this shaped or unshaped adsl? does the price include telkom rental?
The prices never include Telkom rental. That's the fun thing with ADSL, you can pay for it 3 times over (standard phone line, adsl line and isp cost)

On a level playing field better than MWebs offers when you look at price and bandwidth bundles, go figure.

i think that was before he knew what telkom was going to charge per gig.
Per gig billing is not a bad idea provided that
A) you have a decent sized cap before you need to buy extra gigs
B) the price of the extra gigs is reasonable
The international norm for ISP's selling gigs over and above the cap is anything from roughly 10 bucks upward but that's retail price, tidy markup on that.

Why should there be a cap? You are paying per usage.
For instance I I notice that MTN have charged me a few cents for the looksee I had at their edge connection. They didn't rip me with a 1GB charge for a couple of K's.
Why should there be a cap?
I'm speaking in terms of if there has to be per gig billing then only after your cap. There would be no need for per-gig billing if it was uncapped obviously

Over here in the UK there are packages with caps in place, make no mistake about that. They are usually done as deals involving TV channels + broadband combo - haven't had time to do much research into it yet.
Australia also has caps in place, plus pay per gig types of accounts.
There is NOTHING wrong with having a cost per gig, in fact, if anything, it is a far better solution because it is more flexible.
How many times does it need to be said that data cost in SA is not as large an obstacle as line rental ? - over and over and over again, it seems, yet people still can't get this simple fact through their thick skulls.
It seems that you'll be getting 10gig for around R500pm BEFORE line rental. If it wasn't for the double line rental, that cost would be more or less internationally comparable, considering the tiny SA broadband market.
So please, think before you blurt out purely based on emotion - because someone supports per gig billing, it doesn't mean they support the cost Telkom want to charge per gig. Do you really think Datapro make any money on ADSL data ?

There are indeed caps imposed by certain isps in the UK. The thing is, if you don't want a capped account, you have a choice to go to a service provider who offers uncapped accounts (24mb uncapped for 30quid anyone?). We don't have that luxury here in South Africa and hence the irksomeness of the current capping.

SAOL is offering 5GB @ 299 per month, with a R69 per gig top up, if you do the math it beats the DataPro offer.
5 days to go on my 20GB account, these are sad days we live in.
