I am currently employed as a IT techie....mostly for desktop support. I have recently applied for a position as a junior business analyst...Anyone else made the change from technical to non-technical?

I was working in IT then went to retail, was a huge mistake.Thats just me though, got exp in being a business analyst?
As long as the money is better/same then change can be good, also look at the future, will there be a better chance of promotion in your new/old job?

This is still sort of an IT position...essentially I would be the gap between the business and IT....Currently there is no chance of promotion in my current job...as I have reached the highest tech post the next promotion would be management and THAT is definately not for me.

I was technical and was 'promoted' to junior management, tried it for a year then I moved back to technical. Dealing with the crap from staff and mid/senior management drove me close to the edge.

Then I say go for it,but I am just a stranger on a message board who does not know all the details :)

What qualifications you got? I tried that move.. Didn't work out at all. Not even interviews..

well good for you for making a move upwards, you will certainly be better off as a BA than a techie :)

I went from programming to BA and hated it, to much bs paper work and loads of this and that crap that just wasn't for me.

You gotta love the industry you work as a BA in.

You will never know until your try, you got nothing to loose! :)

Good luck

Lucky you for getting in so easy. I also want to get into BA but for me it's going more like: Network Admin - Systems Admin, next it's Project Lead then Project Manager then Account Manager then probably some sort of trainer then possibly BA.

Too be fair I am not in yet....Just applied.

My qualifications meet what they are looking for. Seeing as how it is a junior position. They simply looking for Matric with an IT diploma and a few years experience.

My question was more along the lines of would technical people suit a non-technical role?

Well you'll be the only one that can answer that question. Do you enjoy more the planing and paperwork of IT, or do you enjoy the actual implementation and running of it?

Well tbh I do enjoy both...Have been working more in the "fix it when it breaks" department. So will be nice to spread my wings :)

Just a quick question.... what do you know about being a BA ? The two jobs seem quite unrelated, what did you study ?

Only from what I have read up. But it is still the same company and will still be dealing with the same people. Just on a less technical level.
