As mentioned before in my other thread, I'm Brazil to evaluate a job promotion that I got from my company. After 4 years with the company they've decided to install me as an instructor.
Brazil
It's a beautiful country, magnificent sceneries, and the Engineers hear are not afraid to take on challenges as far as infrastructure goes. People are warm and friendly, although I've read about criminal stories on Brazil, I haven't seen a single incident of crime as of yet.
Culture Shock
Brazil is not like South Africa, everyone treats everyone with respect. I have not encountered racial prejudice up to so far.
The ladies are beautiful, I mean really really beautiful, the only thing that pisses me off, is that they have a thing for bra's here, you'll never come across anyone who has set the boobies free of restraints, even if they have on a sport shirt with a sport bra they would still wear another bra for what I really don't know? I live on a coast city, temperature here is tropical(hot), you'll rarely find a lady wearing trousers, it's just shorts and bikinis, even if they are in their 80s, I believe that our president would have a serious problem if he were to come here.
Although the Brazilians maybe be warm and friendly, they are very arrogant when it comes to languages, they don't like English and most are not willing to meet you halfway in terms of communication, speak Portuguese, Portunol or burn for eternity seems to me the motto.
What is SA better at?
I have not been much around the world to give a qualified opinion, I have only been confined to Africa and South America. So what are we better at? I have yet to find the country that offers most visually appropriate traffic light system. The traffic lights here or robots if you want, are not always visible or at eye level like in South Africa, I've been to Sao Paulo, Rio and Macae, and it's very common to see one traffic light at the center of a dual lane road way above(+5m), seriously WTF? Other than that, we are light years behind Brazil, BRIC or no BRIC.
Oh one more wrong thing the driving sytem :p, they are driving on the wrong sid of the road.
My Job
It's very intimidating, my two colleagues have 4 decades of experience between them, while I only have have 4 years experience. And the majority of my students are either the same age as me(26) or they are much older than I am.
On a positive note, the girls in my class, they are smoking hot, with an exception of one girl who looks like a whale.
Although language is a barrier, Brazil is a beautiful country, I wouldn't might relocating here for good.

The food here is great, what I like most is the tropical fruits. Brazilians have a thing for Sky-scrappers(Okay maybe not, but 7 storey buildings). They love technology here, in fact most of the computer components used locally are manufactured here by companies like Dell and HP, they also make LCD screens and RAM+HDDs.
You'll rarely come across a Mercedes Benz here(only trucks), the rest of the car market is dominated by Fiat, Renault, Ford and VW. A cellphone is a must have, every Tom, Dick and Harry has one. Sadly for me, the internet in my hotel is near dial-up speeds, but if you go to most shopping centers, there is free wi-fi which is very fast. They also have an active digital TV broadcast service, so in many gadget shops you'll find mobile digital TV players the size of navigators up for sale.
Most, infact all TV channels appear to be in Portuguese. and yes the women are hot.
and yes the women are hot.
Told Ya......enjoy;)

+1 I'm not sure about Finland and Sweden but people in general look much sexier if they are pale.
That's not accounting for actual Black people of course, because they are meant to be dark.

nice, coincidentally I was considering following up with lots of Canadians who came here, and South Africans who went to Canada to write a report on the Pro's and Con's between the 2 countries. Obviously Canada would've won hands down but there area lot of things I have heard so far which I would love to share, but its so limited in it's scope. I would have liked to presented a complete report instead.
Thanks for this topic OP, really interesting to hear from someone who'se been there and who can talk objectively about what he sees.

Interesting, never been to Brazil. Expand on SA being light years behind...they have a good tech manufacturing industry, hotel has poor dial up internet speeds, mobile tv like drifta, no english tv channels. Sounds like a mixed bag. What impresses you, light years? Tell us more...

Hi Brazil, I'm a little confused - are you evaluating your own new position? For what? How much you like it? how bad you are at it? Was the salary raise sufficient? What are the possibilities like of you providing an honest evaluation? Why couldn't this evaluation be done locally?

The internet issue is unfortunate and its only temporary, from what I've heard, the internet at my hotel used to be fast, a few weeks before I arrived there was a power surge and then the internet became dog slow.

Not yet, I have met a girl from USA, she's very conservative, I don't want to progress fast with her because I'm still undecided about whether I should accept the job offer or not, I know that I'll definitely be back, so I'll start bonking when I come back, right now, I'm just a good boy.

I'm currently working as an instructor to see whether I like and enjoy the job or not. So far so good, I like what I'm doing, its quite challenging. We haven't gone through the details about salary raise yet. But from what my manager told me, is that I'll be getting 3000 Euros per month for leaving allowances, I can use the money to pay for my apartment and food, electricity and water will be taken care off, the car is also provided, and all this excludes my salary, but I would have to move here on a permanent basis. What's awesome is that I won't be touching my salary.

3000 euros is about R9000(Reals), apartment rentals average R2500, maximum R3000(but you would be getting ripped-off). After paying rent, I'll only spend my money on food and booze, car+ electricity +fuel will be paid by company, per month I think I'll only have 4 days to waste the rest of the money, working hours is 8am to 5 pm(Mon-Sat), after-work I'm tired, so no partying besides I have to mark the scripts and prepare material for the next's days class. I think I'll be okay, the only problem will be the 1st few months, as I'll have to furnish the apartment using my allowance :( but all in all it's a good deal).

Well, there is no worldcup fever here, the infrastructure is already there, so I doubt if they have a lot to do before the World Cup. Right now, what everybody is looking forward to is the Carnival :(, I so wish that I could stick around for it.

Not yet, I doubt if I'll ever go there, unless I get married and decides to show my new wife the "real Brazil" by driving there during the night using a suspicious taxi driver. :p

Why?!? WHY?!? What is wrong with the education system and this dude's parents! This cycle of abuse is just going to perpetuate through this dude's offspring which by the looks of how he behaves are going to number in the hundreds.
Wake up N24. You're not a kid any longer. Seriously man.
