View Full Version : VoIP Buster ?
Anybody use VOIP Buster. I tested, it seems fine but seem to I did not use VoIP much I would like someone who have problems with VoIP on a shaped account to test it. There is apparently also a few country's like in USA you do not need credits as the local call are free. So VoIP Buster link for free. Anybody know of this? Can anyone test this properly and feedback?

i tried it when i was on saix, found the quality to be about the same as everything else on a shaped account. but theres a hidden catch. it's free to USA and most european countries for the duration of 2 minutes per call, or something like that. but it's completely free unlimited duration to said countries if you buy $xx airtime to use for calling other countries.

I use it almost daily, don't even try a shaped account on voipbuster or skype - I couldn't use either. I use it very successfully on my 4GB unshaped account. It must have saved me hundreds or maybe even thousands of Rands already.
I've used it almost daily to call the US, London and Switzerland landlines. I bought 1Euro of credit to get started, which is still unused. The call cuts off after an hour - but the quality is great 90% of the time. I've found it works best with a SIP like X-Lite.
I have a 3Gig shaped account and a 512 Telkom line.
Why wouldn't you try a shaped account on Voipbuster or Skype? I use mine for both, as well as Googletalk and Yahoo voice chats - never had any problems with it.

X-Lite does work good. i use it through www.phonehome.co.za and the cool thing about them is you you can pay in rands, and you determine how much you willing to buy. i deposited R100 about 3 or 4 months ago and still have leftover credit. also the proxy settings that they give you are local, so the latency isn't as high as skype

What VoIP server IP address do you connect to via Xlite, as you mentioned
it is a local server on SAIX or IS networks ?
Do you get allocated a PSTN number for incoming calls ?

local server didn't make much difference when i was on saix, voip was still badly shaped. works fine on IS though. need to go to the site and register, your login name must be a 7-digit number that needs to start with "8". this will also be your number for incoming calls. after you download the x-lite app then go to FAQ's on the site and look for the settings that need to be entered
the domain that the app uses is sip.phonehome.co.za
here are some ping results. using IS account

Thanks will give it a try, they get their b/w from Storm
VoIPBuster and Skype work fine with IS (and resellers) adsl account.
and global rates are much cheaper the local, VB: 1eurocent/m, Skype:1.7eurocent/m

compare it yourself, then you know how much profits they added.
we use both services daily. Some new acc on VB will meet register problem via SIP, but still can make calls. Firefly softphone working with VB (IAX2 protocal) is quite good. Hardware SIP/IAX2 ATA or Phone even better.
