View Full Version : How to use a Cell-C SIM with VMB 10.1

Do you have a Cell-C SIM card and want to use it with a Vodafone modem, but the dashboard tells you the SIM card is unknown?

Below the Vodafone Mobile Broadband installation directory (normally 'C:\Program Files\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Broadband') is a directory named 'Opco' which contains an XML configuration file (Opcos.XML) and a directory for each of the various Vodafone operators by country.

Extract the 'Opco' directory from [-]vmb_cellc.zip[/-] and place it in your Vodafone Mobile Broadband installation directory. This operation will overwrite 'Opco\Opcos.XML' and create a directory named 'Opco\65507 South Africa'. This needs to be done with administrative privileges, so start Explorer as Admin.

Tested with Vodafone Mobile Broadband 10.1.108 on Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7.

Updated for VMB 10.2 here (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/363656?p=7845885#post7845885), thanks Tun@!

Vodafone Mobile Broadband 10.1 does work with the K3805-Z. You will need to rename the directory and modify the XML files as appropriate for your operator in Indonesia, see my response here (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/337315?p=6192271#post6192271).

Tried this and it worked.
But whenI put my Vodacom sim back in, it wouldn't work. I thought this was a kind of "unlock all networks" or "add CellC network" trick.
So I replaced the original Opcos.XML file and deleted the Cell C folder, but still nothing. Had to uninstall and re-install the VMB software

Putting the Vodacom SIM back in works fine for me. This is an "add CellC" network trick.

Did you have to restart or antying first, or just unplug, swap sim and replug?

I'll try tonight and see. I know it gave an error but can't remember what it was.

I see the model isn't supported (MF-190) for the dc-unlocker app. It's fine, I'll stick to the CellC dashboard, I'm just playing around :p

maybe a stupid question but anyway - Do vodacom modems work on 900Mhz? Is it just their network that doesn't?. i have my old vodafone modem (I'm not sure of the model right now) and it would be awesome if I could use it with a cell c data sim. Thanks

Depends on the specific modem. Some Vodafone modems do support 900Mhz, so check online if it does.

Help guys - I have the vodafone k3520 modem, which is compatible with the cellc. So after changing the opco directory, the sim card is detected as cell c and with a pretty strong signal, however there is no cell c profile to connect to as it is with vodacom. I am using a standard voice sim. I don't actually want to go and buy the data sim - unless I really have to. Or is tehre a way to manually input the profile to conenct to cellc.
Thanks

Good day badtrev

Look at this link:

I would recommend a data sim pre-paid, but first try.

thanks a million.
I followed the above procedure to use my cellc card in my k3808z modem. It works 100% . This is done in window 7 ultimate.
If someone want to use his cellc card in k3805z modem he must follow above mentioned procedure.

Good Day nokiabsc3i

If all else fails, you can use MDMA.
Here (http://www.nerve.org.za/mdma/)

MDMA work's very well.

As long as the correct drivers have been installed, Windows 7 should in fact be able to open your modem natively, simply by clicking on Windows' little wireless connection icon. No external application required, no unnecessary RAM usage, keeps your system nice and clean and definitely free of the bloat of the Vodafone software!

Otherwise MDMA.

I bought a Vodafone 3G usb stick this morning, and enjoyed about 2 hours of smooth HSPA access. Since then I have been battling with very low quality GPRS and EDGE connections, but it seems to be the Vodafone Mobile Broadband software. I just connected using my system tray (on Win 7) network 'panel', bypassing that app, and things seem smooth again. However, when I put my CellC card into the modem, it sees the network, but wont connect. It did ask for an access point name, which I left blank.

What am I missing, and how can I get my modem to connect using my CellC card? I still have MB's on that card.

I think your access point name should be 'internet'.

create new dialup connection using connection wizard
your dial number should be *99# <that what im using>
leave your username and password blank and you should have working 3g connection

The VMB software you can change your sms center number to other < then fill this number +27841000000 > you will be able to send sms using the Vodafone MB software

then if you want to check your balance you can download mdma this appliction allow you to check your balance and recharge your account

Hi Ginggs. Any chance you can assist with details of the codes to be used to unlock a Vodacom K4505-Z modem so that this can also be used with a 8ta sim card? Vodacom 3G reception just playing up, so need to change.
Thanks very much for any assistance!

Playing up? Vodacom 3G q.o.s. has gone totally belly up (to be polite enough for a public forum), the last two weeks. It is pushing daisies; it has bought the farm; [cue John Cleese]

hi Ginggs,

i have downloaded your OPCO file for Cell C on a K3805-Z Vodafone stick.
I added the folder 65507 into the C:\Program Files\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Broadband\Opco folder. Currently there is another SA folder in there called 65501.
I cant get it to work... it says SIM not detected... also, there is no CELL C logo like in your dashboard logo... i tried removing the 65501 folder, but then an error message pops up.
can you help?

thanks

Make sure you are using VMB 10.1.

i tried removing the 65501 folder, but then an error message pops up.
The 65501 folder is for Vodacom South Africa, you don't have to remove it.

I verified it with K3570-Z. Unload from memory, it musn't show in system tray. Alternatively uninstall Vodafone software from control panel, it doesn't remove drivers. You need drivers, it is fine. Next time you plug-in modem, installation will pickup, press [ESC].
Regarding MTN post in MTN forum, but I can tell you now that settings are identical.

Hi I have a K3570-Z with vmb 10.1, changed the opco as instructed above. I get the panel with the Cell C logo, it connects (apparently) but when I try open a page it doesn't. Using chrome as my browser it tells me some dns lookup failed...
The vmb app + the win7 tray icon show I am connected. (No [!] or limited access shown on the icon)
Also with the sms, I changed the centre number but nothing works, what didn't I do?

Hi Ginggs, I'm not very computer savvy, but you seem to know a lot of answers..i bought a vodafone R205, after crappy advise that it would be open to my cell c sim...yes, the dashboard doesn't recognise it. A vodacom sim works fine. I'm not sure how to implement suggestions you posted for other modem users, what is the simplest way to enable the R205 to work?

Do you mean dashboard installed on PC? Do you know how to open options menu?
Select two options:
- Do not load at startup
- Unload from System tray on exit.

Exit the program. Open Windows dialup connection created by Vodafone and dial. Or run MDMA at this very moment.
