Hey guys,
Let my girlfriend use my new honda civic to drive up to king williams town for work on Tuesday. So she gets back and says that she's spilt 1litre of milk in the boot of the car.
Just drove to work this morning and it absolutely SCHLUTS inside of sour milk. needless to say I'm quite pissed off. How the hell does one get rid of that smell without selling the car!?

Try the car washers. I'm sure they have the necessary products to clean your boot.

Remove the carpets in the boot.
Wash them with soapy water, rinse. You can use soap for carpets to clean it with.
After you've washed and rinsed them, leave in the sun to dry. You'll also need to wipe the metal body of the boot off, this can be done with a mixture of water and handy-andy/ammonia/something else. Make sure all is dry before reassembly though.
If it's too much schlepp, take it to a car washer. And watch them cleaning the boot - they'll just dump tons of perfume (and nice-smelling stuff in there) when you're not watching.

There's an old wives tale that urine counter acts the smell of sour milk.

I want to take it to a car wash but I'm worried that they just dump purfume onto it masking the smell for a day or two just like you've said, and not actually getting rid of it so I may need to do this myself.

I c what you did there!
some one told me that you have to use a cleaner that kills the protein, that is what is causing the smell to return.
Biotex is apparently the thing that does that.

Cleangreen should work.
After it is clean leave a stasoft refill in there, maybe one in the car too. It kills smoke smells....

That sour smell is from bacteria so find some anti-bacterial (Not just anti-fungal)foot powder and sprinkle liberally if the mat is dry. Leave for a few days and vacuum it up. This should help a bit.

Especially cats urine for some reason. Get your cat to do his business in there and you wont smell sour milk again!

I spilt red paint in my boot once. Took the carpet out and used my pressure washer and a hosepipe for some time on it. Took ages to get it all out. Then left it in the sun for a few days to dry nicely. Took out the spare tire etc and cleaned the boot with cloths etc.

First thing you do is drink a glass of milk and then puke it into her pillowcase half an jour later.
Secondly do not bother taking the car to a carwash. They will not get it out. Same happened to me...bag of milk popped in footwell behind drivers seat. Carwash shampooed and sucked and perfumed. One day in hot sun and it was back with a vengeance.
Remove carpet completely and rent or borrow highpressure "gun" and spray with hot water and chemicals. Let it dry in the sun and make sure it doesn't smell anymore. Wipe metal part of boot with disinfectant. After refitting carpet buy crapload of carpet cleaning powder and sprinkle boot liberally and leave it there...it will extract any remaining smells or particles. I did this and it finally worked.

Baking soda.
Wet the milk stain, put copious amounts of baking soda on and leave to dry. Take the carpets out and give them a thorough wash.

Obviously my sarcasm did not have the same strong whiff as the sour milk...

I'm just replying for the sake of completeness, I had to take it to a valet service who specialize in this type of professional cleaning, R450 later, good as new.

worst smell ever i had is from when i caught fish. only way to get rid of it was to wash the carpets with carpet cleaner and leave the boot and doors open for a week in the hot sun.
