Just spoke to Telkom. Turns out that the whole of CT is down (clearly PE too but he didn't mention it) and it 'might be up quickly, you never know'...

It's the damn POS tranparent proxy server again. Can download at full speed on port 81 from easynews. Maybe SAIX should upgrade from the gameboy to a dual 386 or something.

transparent proxy only, perfect still through payvpn. perhaps they kill it late night so people cant browse to downloads lol

could this be the second link in the chain?

first telkom purposely allows the previous 30gig capping loophole just to drive up the general adsl userbase, before pulling the carpet from under their wholesale customers ... and stealing the newly expanded market back with special capping rules for telkom internet subscribers.

now, international goes down night after night after night. vpn becomes an answer. i think it's a matter of weeks before we see a new telkom product launched with fanfare and hero-worship. for just another R50/month, you now get what the reliable international connection you used to get for free ...
