Hi,
I'm starting to see more and more threads in which peeps advertise whatever new hosting / service / product they have on offer. Can this be restricted to a specific section (or banned altogether) so that the forum doesn't get overloaded with unrelated commercial spam?
For eg: http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?p=389675#post389675
fanks.

Please please please please!
At the very least it gives people interested a place to start looking and people can peruse through the offerings at their own leisure.
Hope I havent now put a hex on this request!

if it had not been a free service, and since it was of benefit to forumites, my own assessment was to leave it be,
Are you talking about the Vlive porn thingy?

Lets wait till mid Jan 2006 when everybody'z back and then put it to a vote.
Personally - I recon anybody brave enough to push their product on this site deserves to be allowed to.
I want a POLL.
Well - I request a poll anyways.

IC summed it up nicely.

Maybe a paid thread then... low cost adverstising for companies who can't afford banner adverts... I don't think it would undermine the other advertising, but rather add another revenue stream.
But I'm not an expert, and that's just an idea!

...but I'm sure there are forumites that would appreciate paid for text adverts in threads in a specific advertising forum - the question is how many forumites would regularly venture into such a forum?
<snipped>
Sounds like a good idea... the reason I brought it up was for my own business... I have investigated the advertising costs for banners etc. on MyADSL. They are excelently priced, considering that you have the perfect target market and probably the most likely place to get clicks from.
However, considering that we do not wholey focus on the ISP side of things, we decided not to venture down that road just yet.
If there were a way we could advertise our service and rates via the treads, it would be great.
Maybe someone could make a comparison page for ISP service... kinda like the listings on Hellkom. I know as a consumer, I would love a central location where I could compare all the ISP's using the same attributes.
Thought I would throw these ideas out there and see what everyone thinks.

/me votes against such a section.
/me votes For a weekly report that sums up what happened on MyADSL. It's too big now to keep up with everything. I want a weekly report detailing:
who got banned and why;
who made personal attacks and against whom;
who got into flame wars and what about;
who won each day of the 'latest to go to bed' competition;
who cheated in their bid to get a landmark Thread Killer post;
what new words unique to MyADSL have been accepted into popular use;
whether the Lesser Spotted Cheetah was sighted that week;
how many arguments there were about race;
how many threads were locked;
who faked a limb amputation;
who threatened to leave and didn't;
oh, and some roundups of the major telecoms news stories for the week.
This possible?

and a succinct summing up (in English) of capt'n wifi's ramblings in order to make them slightly more understandable - this would require the removal of dubious URLs, cross checking of phone numbers, and some removal of libellous material...

Partly but still at a great deal of trouble... :D
Basically all we can put in is "who faked a limb amputation" section...

How about MyADSL sms news, with a short sponser text at the bottom to cover costs?
