We have threads about Pres Mbeki and ne Pilot, about graphics cards, what are you doing new year etc. Can we try and stick to spirit of forum?

yeah, coz we DONT have a hardware section, nor do we have off-topic.
*dof look*

Yeah coz we don't use this forum to improve, discuss, question ADSL problems. If you want to question Pres Mbeki's decision to use a possible less than qualified pilot I fail to understand what that has to do with my broadband
werner

it has nothing to do with broadband.
Which is why it is in the off-topic section.
And legit hardware questions go in the hardware section.
They exist for that purpose.

The heading for this forum is General ADSL Discussions not off topic etc. Hard ware refers to ADSL hardware and so on. Not petrol, not pilots etc

Good point.
The heading for this forum is General ADSL Discussions not off topic etc. Hard ware refers to ADSL hardware and so on. Not petrol, not pilots etcDear Tony... You're 100% correct - the heading is General ADSL Discussions - that's the topic - IOW the section "off-topic" is meant for other stuff (not about the topic).
You are off-course more than welcome not to read them, and since you're the bright spark tonight why don’t you come up with a solution to our ADSL problems.

There's plenty of space for everything. Take this thread - it belongs in the Forum suggestions and gripes area - incase the title doesnt give it away thats where people go to discuss gripes and make suggestions.

I hear you, then post the stuff under off topic! Its easy to solve Broad band problems stop using Telkom and use 56kbps modem. And yes you're right I don't have to read them. I Log on to read braod band not all and sundry!

What My ADSL covers all topics?
Its easy to solve Broad band problems stop using Telkom and use 56kbps modem. Who do you think gets the money when you use dialup - again it's Telkom. You can't get rid of them mate. So please if you have any more meaningful (less crazy) suggestions - please post them, otherwise do all your babbling in off-topic (as you suggested).

What My ADSL covers all topics?
Thats what the General discussions are for, for OTHER topics.
In case you havent noticed, The Off Topic section's dicription is "Everything else!", not "Everything else as long as it has to do with ADSL"
TonyA

Yes nGaged55 but I'm trying to say that forum as a whole is devoted to ADSL and even off topic surely should have some reference to ADSL

@TonyA - all those discussions you mentioned are in the Off-Topic section - http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=87
Yes nGaged55 but I'm trying to say that forum as a whole is devoted to ADSL and even off topic surely should have some reference to ADSLThat would be this section - General Broadband Discussions (http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=124)

I am very confused...Do you mean that Myadsl should not have an Offtopic/Hardware place?
TonyA
15-12-2005, 10:40 PM
The description of off topic says everything else. My feeling is that if the heading of this form is My Adsl it should be relevant. Otherwise you coild look at msnetworking off topic and read about Bush or whatever!
TonyA

No offtopic and hardware should be related to broadband
No offtopic and hardware should be related to broadbandNo it should be related to off topic and hardware. We understand what you are trying to say - but it's just not thinking clearly.

What My ADSL covers all topics?
There was a time when MyADSL was literally all about "my" ADSL. Since then, broadband become available in fixed wireless and cellular spaces. Hence the Cellular, iBurst and Sentech sub-forums.
With the increased numbers of mainly techy members, discussions about the SA socio-economic situation, general hardware and other tech pursuits like gaming are inevitable. So those discussions got their own sub-forums too.
Personally I like the way MyADSL has become a wider source of information and discussion - its certainly reflective of an increasing digital lifestyle.
Tony, I'm not sure if you are irritated that people are posting General Hardware topics in the ADSL forums or what, but remember there are many new people on these forums who may not understand forum manners quite as well as you. I think the mods are doing a good job in moving inapropriate stuff as it happens.

Off Topic is for nothing that applies to ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) *like where this topic should Belong*....Ie... Who can burp the longest..latest news....and which his best weed eater to buy.
Hardware is for geeks like me....who when nothing is posted here..post specs..benchmark and see what is hot on market....and if you lookng to buy.
They do NOT need to be related to ADSL and so they are kept in there own forums to not clutter this forum.
So then if that is problem...Does wireless...3g... Sentech/Iburst have problem too? They not ADSL.

I really dont know what your problem is, but i'v got a solution for you in case the off topic section is bothering you. You see the heading "General discussions" on the main page, right? Now to the left of that heading there is a little arrow botton thingy, press it, then you wont see the off topic section anymore and you wont ever be tempted to go in there!

hardware should be related to broadband
thats what the "ADSL hardware, software, technical help" section is for

Where's your Christmas spirit huh?
From the lively debates in many of the threads it would seem that people actually have formed friendships in this forum and feel comfortable talking to other members about offtopic stuff. Don't be so mean !
Afterall where else could you get the best Hardware tips at the moment in SA from an educated users group and off course it also helps to know who the Pilot is of the CEO of CEO's of Slowkom.
Shouldn't this whole thread be in "Off Topic"?
Actualy it should sit in that sub-forum in offtopic called gripes and suggestions :)

One needs an "off -topic" thread in any forum. (proved by the number of people who are reading this thread at any given time as opposed to other threads). People need a break from the topic at hand .
It is cool that you can from within the confines of the forum you are in (to meet people of like mind and discuss mutual issues) also broaden your acquaintance with said people by sharing other interests or topics.
Go to any function promoting any particular subject and sit down at a table with a group of people, and it's guaranteed the conversation around the table won't be kept purely to the subject that the function is about. The forum is exactly the same!
In fact any forum should have an off topic section such as this, because otherwise the nonsense which we talk about "off topic" (which I love) would creep into the seerious threads! I personally thank the mods for being considerate enough to give us a safety vavle to let off steam.
