Anyone else having serious problems in Joburg/Sandton? Things had been great previously but for Yesterday and Today it's been unuseably slow, speed test often fails to find a server or has extremely high pings, if i do get a download test then it's something like 0.2mbps.
Anything wrong with the network?

I had a problem in the Edenvale area on Friday and Monday, speed was very slow, so slow that nothing opened up. Did a tracert and found the problem was at 172.16.2.192, timed out many time on a tracert and 40% packet loss on ping. Called 081183 and was holding on for ever, eventually spoke to a technician and the were not aware of any problems, made him aware of the IP, got a REF and that was the end of it, close to 4PM things started to get back to normal.

8ta rep, i was contacted about the problems, they said they will investigate but all has got worse. So nothing seems to be getting done? If this continues i want to cancel this 10GB offer, going to log a complaint with ICASA.... Not that anything will be done...

I've had issues too
Often at night I'm surfing at 128kbps - but consistantly so!
I'll check next time I'm on and mail
EDIT : Northriding here - and it seems one needs car from each and every mobile operator to have a decent service. I'm had Vodacom, Cell C and 8ta and while 8ta is the best by far, it's got it's own issues (like 128kbps). The thing is sometimes it runs at 2mbps with peaks of 4mbps ... so it's clear I *can* get signal

It's really slow when downloading at times at night after 12 when using midnight surfer. Otherwise not many problems my side.

I sent an e-mail and received no feedback at all! Now my connection had gotten even worse, I'd post a speedtest except I can't complete one. What irks me most is that things used to be fine, now I wish I could get my money back. My device is fine, Cell-C sim works 100%.
8ta rep, is there anything I can do?

I am having the same problem. In Rosebank, Johannesburg.
My tablet computer reports 'No internet connection'. I have queried my bundle and there is still 300+ MB available till the end of the month.

I have reported the problem to the email given earlier.
Also I am not the only one in my building experiencing a problem with their 8ta data account, so it is not anything to do with my device or account...

I've had the same problems since the beginning of November. On the 31st Oct my speeds were okay, since November the speeds have plummeted. I've been waiting nearly 2 months now for some fixes and this latest problem is just being ignored by 8ta.

I am still waiting for a reply from social@8ta.com. I am now connecting, but the connection is very intermittent. I cannot download email, and browsing is a 50/50 thing whether the page will be displayed or time-out.
The silence of the 8ta rep is particilurly interesting...

I feel you pain, i have also emailed the stupid email address with now response, My speeds are kuk, i think 8ta has bitten off more than they can chew to be quite honest, i heard they had stopped the 10GIG promo end of October, maybe we have been kicked down to the dial up speed basket from the 10mb basket..... just a thought.
8ta rep - you are not really helping anyone here.

cell id 23825 & 23822 network 65502 8ta telkom
228 kb/s down 172 kb/s up 146 ms Johannesburg ~ 50 km
RSSI -79dbm
5 bar +
Huawei B660
10 gig 8ta Telkom package
This is 8ta Telkom not 8ta MTN
When one is used to 3 to 7 mbps down 2.5 mbps up on Cellc this is very disapointing
Connected to the Farmall tower (8ta telkom cell) near the lion park Lanseria @ a client and downloaded @ 6-7 mbps
I hope 8ta Telkom wil be able to rectify the slower towers & links or its back to Cellc
regards hopeful

Since the 8ta rep isn't giving answers, according to the call center they have been having problems with the internet for the past week or so and are still having problems. I couldn't get any more information out of them as to what the "internet problems" are or exactly when they will be resolved. This may explain the issues you have been experiencing.

Things have gotten even worse for me today, and I just don't buy "internet problems", if they're blaming SAT3 or SeaCom because local is just as bad!

I purchased a 11dbi high Gain directional Antenna today, got home installed it, signal is now up 40% to 65% and my download and ping speeds have improved drastically, still not happy but its holding the connection. And i am not even sure if i have directed the antenna the proper location.
Just a thought....

I couldn't agree more with you on this but i was at a point where i thought i was going to have a nervous breakdown, i rely extensively on my internet being up and usable, my work i do requires this.
It had helped me but like i said, my blood pressure was insanely high:D

I live in Randburg and the weird thing is eventhough I get >90% signal, the download speeds are still very bad, constant timeouts and disconnections, so maybe just hold on a bit before buying an antenna.
