Help. Can't tumble dry, kick, shoot, thump or otherwise harm the cat, belongs to g/f.

Sprinkle some chilli powder or cayenne pepper powder in the potplant. They learn very quickly. Worked well for me when I had cats.

If you can't get rid of the cat (1st choice), get rid of the pot plant.

Tried the powders/pepper thing and didn't work for me. Best solution: get some large pebbles and cover the soil around the plant with the stones (you can get nice white ones from gardening shops - larger is better). A cat will only make a toilet where he can dig...or, more precisely, on a surface with the right texture ;)

Get a dog to guard the pot plant.

Bury some catnip under the soil, no cat will want to do their business where it smells irresistable to them :D

PS if the soil starts disappearing you know your cat is getting enough "roughage" hahaha

Rub vics vaporub on the pot edge. The smell is too sharp for them to stay around for long

You can signify ownership of the pot plant by pissing in it yourself :erm:; and maybe on the cat to thoroughly get your point across ..remember that feline dialogue around territory is through the medium of piss. :D
Or, less drastically, you could take to dumping coffee grounds (you know, from filter coffee) in the soil instead; cats are known not to like that either. Also, depending on the plant you have, it may even be beneficial to the plant too!

Why is the cat doing it in the pot plant? Does it have access to the outside? Do you live in a flat or house? Is it old, ill or recently adopted?

doesn't work...

the weird thing is our cats are scared of a cow hide carpet/throw and the fake fur throw we have ...they refuse to walk or lie on it...

When I was a flat-dweller I had the same problem. The stones solution ended up on the floor around the pot (I have big cats).
What worked 100% was to cover the soil with chicken-wire... Just cut wire into a circle and from a side to the middle... make a hole large enough for plant.. then bend edges around rim of pot.

/piss on the cat. Bwahahaha love it.Though you laugh, I did this and told my buddy (who still has his tom) to do it to his when it got a bit too free and easy with the wizzle stick. It worked then and on his one too ..sure the cat wasn't hugely happy with him but it *did* achieve the desired outcome.

I forgot to mention I still have to smoke the plant.Ah ..then it's almost impossible that coffee grounds would be detrimental to the plant so that's a freebie on that score. And if it helps the plant, so much the better.
