Pretty upsetting that (a) there are no sponsors and (b) the opening match, a local Gauteng Derby, is not being televised.
Poor form, CSA.
EDIT: time for me to eat humble pie... the opening game in TOMORROW!!! And it is being televised live from 14h45 on SS2 ... :o:o:o

The 40 over competition has been changed to reflect the international norm of 50 overs. The same rule changes will apply, e.g. using 2 new balls, no runner, etc.

Poor form, CSA.
As I understand it, a cut of the revenues (not sure how it all works) from sponsor goes to developing local cricket.
So development is the net loser :(

Indians have pretty much nailed the next WC with their youngsters coming through so nicely for them.
It's a question of looking after them, developing them and trying to manage the number of games they play.
Are any locals taking this line with newbies? They should be scouting the club and varsities for new talent.

They get 2 points each.
4 for a win.
Plus a bonus point for winning by certain margins.
Sorry there was a lot of tongue in cheek in my last comment. The Dolphins are my team and I will support them through thick and thin (Lions second, because they're the local team where I now live). However, this team looks lean on potential to finish higher than 5 in the tournament. I hope they do better, but I do not get the feeling they will :(

I think they are playing. I'm sure I heard that AB will be playing for the Titans tomorrow...
Graeme Smith, Dale Steyn, Mark Boucher and Robin Peterson can play for the Cobras against the Lions but Kallis and JP not.
Prince and Tsotsobe will play on Friday in East London before joining the Proteas for their Test Series so will not be available for the match against the Dolphins. Wayne Parnell will join the team in Pietermaritzburg for the fixture against the Dolphins.

Good to know points structure. I like the idea of a bonus point. Gives teams incentive to go excel.

I am a little surprised that the Proteas test players haven't had a chance to play a four day game. That's the timing of the new one day cup, I guess.

So far my predictions on the other 2 games are looking good,Knights and Cobras win.
It would perversely ironic that the first game in 4 that the Dolphins finish would the first the get no points from. I guess there is still hope.

After a healthy start by Dolphin they have two new batsmen at the crease after 21.1 ov. Cobras are having a rough time at 106/5
So what are the chance of a victory for the Dolphins tonight?
And how's the game with Warriors and Parnell. The fella must be caning the ball around. Did he come in as a pinch hitter?

Cant be too long since"In the new rules, no extra time will be allowed in the event of bad weather and overs will be discounted immediately for playing time lost." The Cobra's match is on 43 overs so they would have to start soon.

schumi

Since there is no extra time and teams start losing overs the minute they walk off, usually taking off the covers takes about 30 min, plus time for rain to end and drainage, guess time add up.

No. If the Knights win and the Warriors win, then:
1. Cape Cobras are straight through to the final
2. Warriors play Knights in playoff spot for the final (single semi-final).

Nope,1st goes to final 2nd and 3rd play in playoff. Dolphins can't get to 3rd no matter what.
No. If the Knights win and the Warriors win, then:
1. Cape Cobras are straight through to the final
2. Warriors play Knights in playoff spot for the final (single semi-final).

Thank you, esteemed and more knowledgeable gents :o
I wasn't aware of that rule. Makes sense though that first place gets some privilege for the achievement.

Quite the hiding.
Ouch!!! Jakes, 5 sixes 5 fours, murders hapless Dolphins!!!
After a really good start, the Knights are meekly handing over the win to the Lions.
For Lions , it's a pity they didn't get it together in the early games.

Could I be swallowing my words? Great fight from the tail and still in with a chance.

Means Warriors must travel to Bloem to play the Knights in the eliminator....

I didn't give them much chance, but they pulled it off in the end. Sawry for the Warriors, though.

Warriors are gonna choke.
Warriors are gonna choke.
Are you a one-eyed Capetonian? :p Doubt they'll choke though. W have a decent line-up, also good balance with plenty of passion.

East Londoner... part of the Border setup. High time the Warriors kicked out the Border lot and went back to being EP, with PE (St Georges) as their sole base.

I went for the Warriors on SuperBru as I am second in my pool and the leader will go for Cobras.
Go Warriors! :p
Ps If I had to put money on the game I would put it on the Cobras winning :)

Warriors 242-9 (50 overs)
(Prince 63, Botha 48, Parnell 29, Langeveldt 5/45)
Loved Ntini's six swatted back over the bowler's head :D
Total should be enough. Cobras have suspect batting line up, especially with Smith opening :p
Seriously though, I am rooting for a Warriors win here. Always a chance. Cricket is a funny old game ;)
