My SO found this PDA for me but I advised him to check on the battery at a cellphone shop and see if the phone works with a new battery before buying it.

I have never owned a PDA and he's getting it for me as 2nd hand - http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=67&c=i-mate_pocket_pc_phone_edition_htc_himalaya

So I'm new with Windows Mobile type PDA phones and have never used a phone that support Andriod, Symbian and Windows Mobile OS's before.

I need some advice here, if anyone's willing to help me out:

1. Will I be able to install the latest OS or Android on this PDA?
2. What are the pro's and con's?
3. Is it possible to get USB to connect to the web instead of using the bluetooth?

Anything else that I need to know, I would really appreciate your feedback...

Hiya...

Hope you guys are getting it for free/very cheap? As getting a battery for it might be a tall order...

1. Will I be able to install the latest OS or Android on this PDA? (NO - this has Win 2003 on it, only WinMobile 5 could be upgraded to 6 or 6.5)
2. What are the pro's and con's? (8 year old device - not many Pro's...)
3. Is it possible to get USB to connect to the web instead of using the Bluetooth? (WinMobile devices could use a PC's internet if connected by USB...)

Hi Chris.

Thanks for the feedback. Are you saying I'd be better off buying a new phone instead of getting the i-Mate? I was thinking the same thing - actually had mixed feelings about taking the i-Mate and instead rather buying a iPhone 4 or get a Sony Ericsson...

You are MUCH better off. I bought an i-Mate when it was launched and tbh I was disappointed even then. Windows mobile is TERRIBLE. The touch screen is NOTHING like the ones you get now.

Rather buy a second hand android or ios device if you cant afford a new one.

Thanks, Madman. I'll tell him this. Actually for a long time, I've wanted another Sony Ericsson so think I'll look into that. I had a Sony Ericsson K800i and honestly by far, this was the best phone I ever had despite the software issues - the photos were exactly like the ones taken from a digital camera.
