Does anyone use X-DSL? Is it wise to use such an unknown entity as SP? I am using ADSL only for the permanent connectivity and use little bandwidth.(Never exceeded 800Mb per month)

well, I would ask myself, why use x-dsl for R63 a gig when you could use Cybersmart for R100-3gigs?

Hi outop49. X-Dsl was one of the first ADSL service providers, we have been going for 5 years. If you are using less than 1 gig a month why purchase account costing you more than R63 exl per month?

ADSL in South Africa has not yet have it's 5th birthday. We were late starters, remember.

Scares me! If you can lie about that you can lie about a lot!
But tell me, what would happen if you would subscribe to two SP's to test the water? Is it possible to configure the system that you can make a choice which sp you want to use or how does it work?
Please excuse the ignorance. (stupidity)

Rather go for webafrica and buy prepaid 1gb bundles for R75 ... big benefit would be the unused usage carries over to the next month.
Also consider cybersmart 3gb for R100 (192k)

X-Dsl the company is in its 5th year. We started specifically to provide ADSL and ADSL services. We have provided DSL since the launch in 2002 3 1/2 years ago ! Why would we like to lie to you to earn R9 a month out of you!

The easiest way to do this is put your ADSL router in bridge mode (check the manual for your router) and make a broadband dialup for each ISP in Windows XP.
Start / Control Panel / Network Connections / Create a new connections
New Connection Wizard window opens
Next.
Connect to the Internet. Next.
Set up my connection manually. Next.
Connect using a broadband connection thaty requires a user name and password. Next.
ISP Nanem. Next.
User name, Password, Confirm password. Next.
Finish.

Sorry to ask, but is Cybersmart 3gb on 192 SAIX or IS? And what would typical speeds be like compared to a 3gb Telskum account? All of this on a 192k line of course.
Chris
16-03-2006, 05:50 PM
Cybersmart is SAIX. Since Telkom Internet is on the SAIX network, the speeds will be the same.

The service is charged at a flat rate with a differential for residential and business customers. The monthly ADSL line rental is R680 for residential customers and R800 for business customers, in addition to the normal monthly telephone line rental (R67,72 for residential customers and R89,97 for business customers) and call charges.
There is a once-off installation charge of R404. ADSL users also require a special modem and surge protection unit. Modems and surge protection units are available from Telkom, or may be purchased from external suppliers. Telkom charges R2469 for an Ethernet modem or R2067 for a USB modem.
R2000 for a modem?! R800 for business?! thank god i was too stupid for adsl back then :p

All this vindictiveness were started by me asking a stupid question and by making a tongue-in-cheek remark. Please allow me to make a closing comment.
X-DSL started there business in 2001 and register there CC in 9/2002. They will be able to put 5 candles in their cake at the end of this, their fifth year.
X-DSL made an effort to prove to me, a small, ignorant customer that they can provide a good service.
I wish X-DSl all the best for the future and if they pursue their goals with the same eagerness as they tried to prove their worth in this case, I am sure some people may just eat there words someday.

We've already seen in this thread that ADSL is only 3 years old in South Africa. Pray tell, what kind of business did a company with a name like xdsl do before ADSL?
The lady does protests too much.

Why is AYCE so interested in X-DSL business?
What does it matter if x-dsl has been in business for 3 years or 5 years?
As long as they can provide what customers want is what matters.
The pressure of 22nd March must be getting to them.
It is not professional to run your opposition down in public, doesn't do any justice to your company.
Anyway, GOOD LUCK DOTCO for the 22nd March .. and stop playing PI.

Thanks! It is all very exciting at the moment. I have that feeling when you are reading a great book and the pages left are getting thin.
Anyway, my BS filter is on high alert. I can't help it. ;)

Holy ****, I couldn’t believe it when I had to read through this thread. Wasn’t MyAdsl about fighting Telkom, getting better prices, etc? Well reading through this thread I can see that the purpose has been derailed (at least for some users) - now you have a bunch of kids fighting about “if a company has been in business for 3 or 5 years. Shot guys - you just helped everyone - I'm sure Telkom are going to drop their prices now that your investigative skills proved that a company are running for 3 years instead of 5. But then we all know what they say about small things.

What a boring thread. Yawn
I think that the age of a company is very important. It provides history and security. It is not something to be taken lightly. Although AYCE maybe went over the top a bit, X-DSL should stick to their official age and not the age when they informally started.
What if I say that I have a business that has been running for 20 years although I only have a CC or Company registered last year. If I then decided to register on the JSX, they would only accept the last year.
Cheers
Abe

I agree with that.
Sometimes a company runs for a while and then later (due to costs and other cr@p) becomes incorporated (for want of a better word) later.
