At last!

Mphahlele said the enforcement institutions could award damages against a supplier “for collective injury to all or a class of consumers generally”.
I see the first 9000+ complaints coming from the MyADSL community, obviously against teklom! :D

watch who tries to oppose this bill, and my guess are they would be the guiltiest parties who know how much they suck. telkom, multichoice etc

Question is how will this interface with communications DOC and what happens with Icassa. Make them redundant?

The committee was told there was broad support for the principles of the bill, but that the cost and necessity of establishing a new regulator had been a concern. Current regulators like Icassa and even the DOC was and still is IMHO a total failure and maybe this will allow another recourse to resolve issues. Pity its still far off but at least there shines light in the dark consumers tunnel or is it an oil pit! unless some PPL we know well will interfere again!

Remains to see how toothy/toothless this organization will be :) Will we get a scorpions? Or will it be more like ICASA?

@dominic, just wondering if this is the same consumer council [?] legislation you mentioned last year, or is it something new?what a fine memory chip you have there........

a great idea which could be really really useful in SA - will go and have a proper looksee when time allows but would doubt that this would cover telecomms because of its highly specialised nature and the pre-existence of ICASA

mention of funding difficulties at this stage rings lots of bells.....why set the damn things up if you are not going to reource them properly?
