Mmm - I fancy the Chiefs. Always have. Great guys. If an overseas team is gonna win it, I'd rather it be them than any other.
BUT

it is critical for SA rugby that we fk up any NZ/OZ opposition in the own backyards every chance we get. I see Saturday's final as a victory for Rugby because no matter what, we'll have a first-time winner. We've already seen mediocre performances (Reds*, Crusaders, Bulls) going unrewarded and a terrible long term strategy (stormers*) being punished in the end.

The odds do favour the chiefs though and it is not unpatriotic or treason to make that observation. The odds are stacked in the Chiefs favour and maybe, with a little luck, that'll lead to complacency. I don't see it happening but we can hope - which is way better than some of the bullsht I have read above.

*Except for that stupid conference cup.

I really believe it is a mere formality in two weeks time when the SARU council votes for the 2013 Super Rugby teams.

With the circus show going on there at the moment, I cannot see anybody voting for the inclusion of the Lions.

The Chiefs were by FAR the better team on the day, they played precisely as they needed to by shutting down the Sharks... granted the Ref helped them occasionally, but not enough that if he hadn't the Sharks would have won.

The Sharks looked tired and disoriented tbh... but it was a great competition all around this year, and I'm looking forward to the CC bigtime.

I hear what you are saying but the STORMERS also had the privilege of skipping the two hardest overseas opposition teams. Many pages back, I made a comment about this and how STUPID the whole format was. In fact, my prediction then came to fruition: with 3 sides in the top 6, it means that SA teams are effectively facing tougher competition since we play each other twice.
