View Full Version : Best way to register a .com domain?
Is their an equivalent to unforum for .com? I prefer to register directly instead of being stuck with a 3rd party that will be difficult to change from.

Uniforum is the registry for .co.za domains. The registry for .com domains is Verisign and you can apply to be a registrar with them but its quite a process (compared with Uniforum).
You first have to be accredited by ICANN. There is a non-refundable application fee of about R20 000 and then an annual fee of about R36 000.
Then you have to build all the systems that are required for integration with the registry database. There will be lots of testing and verification of the systems before they allow you access to the main system to register domains.

I don't think that the OP wants to start his own com registry business, merely wants to register a com domain.
The other posts so far mention quite a few registrars although I would stay away from Verisign die to their unethical business practises and they are quite expensive. (From experience)
Another registrar to consider is TUCOWS.

+1 for Namecheap. Has been with them for a few years now. Probably the best domain registrar.
