I remember going for pizza in Blackheath that was so bad that my Mom and I walked out, and the restauranteur didnt accept our payment. Ie, we got up to leave, went to settle the bill, and the manager/owner knowing we were unhappy, said its fine just go.
I cant remember what was so bad about it, now that I think about it. I think the service and food both sucked. thats the only time I've ever walked out of a restaurant.

A familys house.
Eating a meal and there is a long hair in the food and I am too embarrassed to tell anyone. I take my time by pushing the food around the plate to avoid the hair but it does not work. I end up being the last one with food on my plate and they say finish up cause there is dessert.

I had some kind of portugeuse sausage thing at Adegas once. (No not chorizo).
It was half cooked, slimy, looked like it was made of minced intestines and eyeballs.
I did not eat it. I still feel nauseous thinking of it.

My mate had a surf & turf, the steak was so rotten when he cut it the inside was green. He only realised this after a few bites. When he held out a piece to me to smell if it was still ok I started dry heaving. :(

Gave a mate R100 to go buy wors for a braai, so I was expecting something pretty good. He comes back with this pink "wors" that cost R25 for like 1kg.
No one had more than a bite or 2 of their rolls, and a few threw up To this day we still don't know what "meat" was in this "wors".

Spur Restaurant. Hot rock meat rotten, smell so bad that surrounding tables emptied quick and then manager claimed it's how it should be and maybe it was the pepper corns burning on the rock. I decided to leave without paying and they brought us a different order and gave us free coupons for the next visit. I gave the coupons away and never visited another Spur again.

I was once staying at a friends house and his mom fancies herself a good cook. She made some lamb dish that felt like slime going down your throat. It came up after the first mouthful and I had to re-swallow it. I then faked feeling sick so my mom could come fetch me as I could not see any way of getting out of eating it. The second worst part about it? Her kids(my friends) were chowing it and loving it! Not just faking it!
The worst part you ask? I went to him months later and it was the same meal again...

Coming home from Splashy last year, we decided to stop off at a charming little eatery in Bulwer. Some local woman made these pies that are famous around the area. I ordered a pepper steak that was awesome until i noticed roach legs. Tugging at them with my fork i pulled out a whole roach.
Not knowing what to do and not wanting to freak out my 10 friends or so that were in the process of tucking in, i kept quiet until the end. Then of course i went bananas :)

Was still a young 'un when we stayed over at this posh family.
The hostess had flu and could not smell a thing, she made us breakfast and this expensive pollony she used were off, bad, however you say it in English. The kitchen had a whiff of rotten meat, but I thought it should smell like that, until I took a bite... man was it bad! I forced my way through it (her husband was a doctor so I knew where the surgery was) while my mate just skipped it and went for toast.
She looked over at my mate: "Why aren't you eating your food?"
"Mam, I think the meat is off!"
She was so embarrassed that I finished it without a word. Had that after taste in my mouth for quite some time.

I'm not sure whether it was the combination of ingredients but it smelt off when it arrived. Despite that, I had some but it was  . Since it was served in a small potjie, I left the rest of it. I don't take crap from restaurants. No need to make a scene but they'll either do it until it is right or they can forget about being paid for it. That being said, I have had some decidedly average experiences - I just never go there again. The worst experience was glass in my food - big fat chunk and the owner of the restaurant expected me to actually pay for the meal too. They're not around any more.
Worst home meal was one that the maid cooked involving a really, really oily chicken. Vile. It wasn't her - it was the foodstuff. Parental units got an opinion on that one. Other than that food is usually fine with the odd average meal. Unfortunately I can't not go back :). Oh, the previous SO that used to boil chicken and boerewors is no longer around any more :p
And then, have I ever prepared a crap meal? Nope. Never. But I cannot bake a cake to save my life, I've made tiramisu that was runny and possibly made a sauce that was a tad too spicy for all of my guests. A bit of egg shell in the omlete is just part of it. And I'd suggest that if you are vegan you are well screwed.
A slight aside - when I was small I made my folks chocolate milkshakes first thing in the morning. Daft folk that they were insisted that I brought them coffee instead but I had used up all of the milk. Anyway, they got coffee made with some of the chocolate milkshake. Didn't get any complaints.

Interesting - must've given a different taste and texture to the coffee :D
As for the odd little bit of egg shell in food, you will get it & it's not life-threatening.
As for glass in food - no thanks.

Place near me makes very nice pizzas one in particular that I like, the default is to put on this junk, forgot one order to tell them to leave it out, even after scraping the fish off I still couldn't eat the pizza.
why oh why do people contaminate any food with this !

True hahah.
Went to spur last night at Peter Place, was good! They ran out of the 350gram steak special so they gave (my dad and brother) the 500gram for the same price.
