CAPE TOWN — Eskom was considering building a second Koeberg-type nuclear base power station in Western Cape to increase electricity supply in a province that has been plagued by a spate of power cuts, Public Enterprises Minister Alec Erwin’s office confirmed on Friday.

Erwin’s spokeswoman, Gaynor Kast, said Eskom had launched a feasibility study to look into the establishment of such a plant, which would host a conventional reactor.

Thought they had done all these studies already?!

Roll it on - winters coming.

Still be sitting in the dark long way into the future if only starting 'studies' now!

It all depends where this plant is situated. If it is in the sparcely populated areas, protests will be few. It is any way too late for the winters of the next decade as such a plant can take up to a decade to commission.

The planned plant is right next door to the present one. Site is already there - and planned 20 years ago.

Public Enterprises Minister Alec 'No Nuts' Erwin..? :D

But true - this story as crazy - these studies already done - so this a pre-emptive - it's going to take a long time - and don't blame us - still got to do studies!?
