So in otherwords Telkom provides jobs to a great portion of the legal work force in SA, helping keep many laywers fed and clothed :)

Basically Telkom can run the country if they wish to but since the other departments of the SA gov is not profitable they chose not to.

What bothered me more about the Carte Blance program is the fact that government has almost the same percentage of shares in the SNO that they have in Telkom.
Call me pessimistic, but I see the SNO doing as much for competition as Cell C did for the cellular market - a big fat zero! :(

I think the main point is that government want to make money and they can't do that if another provider thats really cheap comes into play. There they buy shares in all of them and slow down developement so they can still make money from telkom. :( There is our big problem!

Very true. Remember, our government still has to fund their RDP program for a couple of more years to come, and currently telecoms seem to be one of the more profitable ways of achieving this.

I think the carte blanche story was badly executed. The indian lady didn't even mention telkom capping us and no pricing information was given. 2000% more expensive doesn't cut it, tell South Africa how much it is in Rands. The web developer dude mentioned 3gb cap, but does that explain to South Africa what it is?
She could have really tried to do more research, the whole thing was a waste of time, I could have done more with 16minutes.
