There I was. Sitting in Springboks, Stellenbosch - with one of my best drinking buddies. The rest of the people who were drinking with us had already left. A random German from Munich appears in our booth (supports Bayern Munich), we start talking. A random girl joins. The German unknowingly pulls out a twenty Euro, upon correction he pulls out a R100 note, gives it to the girl and promises her a drink, while ordering the rest of us one. Very quickly all in all.

We wait...
We wait...

Girl has disappeared with the R100...

How are we to build a country with people who steal the money of a foreigner?

I really wept. I couldn't believe it. I...

The way you put it, he gave her 100 Rand and promised her a drink. She did not want the drink and left. After that you wept because your were drunk :D 'Springboks', that's a nice name for a drinking place . . .

Yeah. I realise it's stupid. I did at first think he knew the girl. The girl randomly joined not five minutes after he sat down.

I wouldn't do something like that. My money wasn't taken.

Herpaderpa. But yeah, he was probably flaunting it. I was already smashed at the time, so I don't know.

It just makes me ****ing angry that someone would just take somebody else's money. I was seriously pissed off. I am seriously pissed off.

So unless she's a waitress, why exactly would the men send the girl to buy the drinks? Is that the new way of doing things these days?

I thought the natural tendency is to either get the actual waiter , or buy the drinks yourself ?

Yeah. I don't want this to go into sexism. A social contract was agreed upon and someone broke it and ran off with the paper.

Haha. That does sound terrible. If my luggage was ever stolen I'd be shocked to know that someone likes my clothes.

It's a sad day for South Africa, but the German wouldn't be phased about this.

€10 (R100) for a round of drinks is peanuts in Europe...but instead of a round of drinks he got a story to tell his mates back in Germany and all he lost was €10.

Considering that in Ireland it is like €4 or €4.50 for a single pint, and people regularly buy rounds for groups of 5-10 people, the €10 is a drop in the ocean...well worth it considering he has "the real African experience" now.

It's crossed my mind, but it seems very unlikely. Given the type of vibe the guy was giving off.

Uh. He left the table when we realised the money is gone. He made zero attempt to try and make us do anything. All he did was show us some photos on his iPhone and talk about football.

It gives you the means to be happy. And anyway, rather rich and unhappy than poor and unhappy.

Dude...read your first post again. I still dont get what you are saying 100%. He promised her a drink and gave her R100? Why did he give her R100? Was he thinking....hey lemme buy you a drink...just hold onto this R100 quick while Im busy buying other drinks?

Yeah...dont really get it...IMO that tourist deserved to get his R100 taken. Wanna buy someone a drink...sure then buy the frickin drink and give it to her, but dont ask some stranger to hold a R100 note for what seems like no logical reason at all.

Stupid is as stupid does...

To me it was quite clear. Take this R100, buy a round and one for yourself. Or what am I missing?

lol, had quite the opposite effect with a buddy of mine.

His brother had just died and I was schaperoning him at a couple of bars.

He gave some pretty girl attitude as she walked into the bar and told her he wants a drink, gave her R200 and she was back within 3 minutes, drink and change in hand. I expected her to empty the drink over his head, she gave him the drink, dropped the change on the table and told him to learn some manners.

I was totally flabbergasted.

Actually went to her and apologiesd for him explaining the situation and she said not to worry, she saw something was not right.
