View Full Version : Why are the Lions dropping out of Super Rugby next year?
I hear the Platinum Leapords will replace them.
If that happens it will be an embarrassment to all of South Africa.
btw the super 15 log is unfair.
If the Bulls have 24 points and the Reds have 21 they should NOT be allowed in the play offs.
Since when does the better team get kicked out while a worse country gets benefits?
No hate on AUstralians but really now, it doesn't make sense. Letting a team in because they are Australian.

Lions languishing bottom of the log, looking really likely that they will be booted to make way for the Pukesters. And yes, the conference system makes a mockery of the Super franchise by allowing the Aussies to get a spot even if they play like poop on toast.

The current format sucks, enough said... Old round robin system with the top 4 qualifying for semis was the best format imho... Local derbies hold less appeal to me than international competition. That's what we got the Currie Cup for. By the end of this season we will have seen the Lions vs Cheetahs 4 times. Boring and judging by the half empty stadiums I'm not convinced the local derbies are more lucrative...
Anyway...

I think it's a case of killing the golden goose personally. In S14, a local derby was something to look forward to because there was only a few of them. The S15 seems like the Currie Cup with some international teams awkwardly stuffed in and a log that impossibru to make heads or tails of. I've stopped bothering, when the playoffs are approaching the papers will probably get a sales & ad boost by doing "Who needs to what to get to the playoffs" supplements.
Too much of a good thing makes Jannie sick. There's only so much money to be had from the public, sadly nobody will put 2 and 2 together when attendances drop & they'll say all that's needed is some radical rule changes because the public want more basketball-like scores.
My personal guesses would be that they'd propose making scrums & tackling more "rugby league like."

I was waiting for the punchline to a joke but all I hear is worthless drivel.... I'll go off helping unfortunate children with the money I save on watching this useless game...
