Anyone have a Paypal account ?
If you live in south africa you can only SEND money (as from June 2005 (http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_help-ext&eloc=714&loc=650&unique_id=71183&source_page=_home&flow=))
How are the fees and lead times for transactions?
If I need to receive money into an account (other than my local yocal bank) are there any better accounts to obtain?
Thanks peeps. :)

I use it for the occasional ebay purchase haven't had problems so far..just make sure your password is secure and only use your paypal password for paypal. Unless you are intending to sell stuff online i can see no reason to receive money...

I love paypal. I hate taking out my wallet and typing in my CC number and code when i can just type in my email address and password. I have had no trouble with it at all.
If you have problems with a vender, you can request a refund and explain why you want the refund and they will take it up with the vendor. I have done this a few times, but mostly when you mention that you are taking the matter up wit paypal they just do the refund for you.
I think you can receive payments now on paypal in SA, not 100% sure.

i think that e-gold (http://www.e-gold.com/) allows you to receive money.

I agree but they do have an cap on the amount you can dispute. So for larger purchases I would still use my credit card where possible, then you have the option of charging back if something goes wrong. If you did the purchase via paypal you can't as from cc company's point of view the transaction was with paypal not the third party. Disputes through paypal also take quite a while to resolve the average in my experience is 30 days.
There are alot of horror stories floating around the net and every hacker and his dog tries to hack/phise paypal user accounts....

I use Paypal for occasional eBay purchases too. No problems so far. In fact I had a major hassle with a Bidpay/Western Union transaction when they stopped operating and really wished it had been through Paypal instead.

Great,
Thanks for all you input.
Will most likely signup. e-gold seems interesting too, but the ease of paypal seems a little easier.

PayPal is the only real option, because of it's wide adoption.
One idea that an old paypal and ebay addict gave me is to open a bank account specifically for paypal purchases and transfer money in as and when required, which is a means of protection, there being such a huge degree of fraud and identity theft online.
I have an account directly linked to PayPal, my next step is a dedicated bank account just to "feed" my PayPal account and I figure I must do that sooner than later.
So yeah, effectively, there are no reliable and effective services to match PayPal - it's cornered the market.

You can send and receive money with www.moneybookers.com and skype use it.
It basicly works the same as PayPal.
I have received money to it no problem.
If your intended market is EU ChronoPay might be a good option, they are stable and reliable processor and their charges is lowest comparatively to others.
