So I've got Highveld on in the office while I work and of late I've been picking up on something that really irks me...

Now, I don't know if its just me that isn't listening properly but I swear a lot of the "artists" have developed some sort of speech impediment that comes through in their singing.

Things that spring to mind right off the bat

Alyssa Reid - Alone again: At the start of the song, what is she trying to sing Tonight? To now? Till now?
Lady Gaga - Marry the night: I seriously can't make out if she is singing Marry or murder the night?

Its not just these (there are more that I have picked up on of late but can't remember them), but it seriously seems to me the techniques these people are using makes it impossible to actually hear what they are saying.

Anyone else feel the same?

Anyways you're the one at fault. :p What you're experiencing is called mondegreen.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondegreen

A mondegreen is the mishearing or misinterpretation of a phrase as a result of near homophony, in a way that gives it a new meaning. It most commonly is applied to a line in a poem or a lyric in a song

Excuse me while I kiss this guy.

Didn't Hendrix later confess to saying exactly that? In fact, during the Isle of White concert, he was singing it will mock-kissing another member of the band, IIRC.

EDIT: That website (http://kissthisguy.com/jimi.php) alludes to this,as does wikipedia.
