And here we have the [massive] problem in a nutshell. For the last 30 years (if not more) we have had a low level war in KwaZulu - in the dying days of the nat government that is all it could be described as. And these deaths have continued intermittently ever since then - councillors killed, representatives killed, whole families ending up dead. Arms caches being found in KwaZulu - some quite recently.
No wonder the country is in the abysmal state that it is: where someone can say - it doesn't matter what a "leader" does - I'll vote for him/her anyway. Even if convicted of a crime - like corruption, or even murder. Sickening. We have no hope when a person cannot bring their intellectual powers to bear - I mean - why bother having a brain?!
As to this Zulu/Xhosa tribal thing - I am truly shocked that in 2006 - 12 years into our democracy we still have such "middle, dark ages" views prevailing - that has caused the deaths of untold people - and to all intents -adds mightily to the violence we experience daily. It is unacceptable. Maybe instead of pointing fingers at whites people should look closer at the true reasons - emotional voting, and tribal hate.
There are many blacks in the KwaZulu issue who should be up for war crimes -and it is ongoing!
When we are sitting in the dark - because the gub f#cked up - no problem - its an emotional issue - no brains involved.

On the radio this morning SAFM was the CEO of PPP (Pretoria Portland Cement) saying the demand for cement has increased by 50% and how they struggling to cope with demand and they are now bringing mothballed plants back into production which was shut down last during the days of old regime.
So please explain to me where is all this cement going of a sudden ???.
We can lay thanks for our economy firmly at the feet of Trevor Manuel - he is the only person we need thank - the rest are clueless - and do their best to destroy his work. And the cement issue? I am shocked; "bringing plants back online that were mothballed at the end of the last regime?" So - even in the dying days there was more construction, development going on than since - when plants have been offline for 12 years!!! So - gub really has done nothing except take executive holidays and get fat at the expense of the consumer and tax payer?? Now - all of a sudden - plants are going online??! Why not for 12 years!! Nothing has been done!! Now they catch a wakeup because the country is so miserable - and they've got to do something!!?
It sucks, stinks - and this is no way to run a country in 2006.

You don't know how black women (a large percentage of the ANC vote) think but you are boldy declaring that they vote emotionally? How would you know that if you have no idea how they think, don't you think your statement (shared by many whites) is a bit generalistic and ignorant?

for africans it does'nt matter how modenised u can be u still are that person who is african and from a certain culture. Its quet very easy for someone who does'nt understand the importance of belonging to a tribe, see if my surname is Mkhize it does'nt just end there there are other sub-names that are used as my surname which defines who i am.

Well on another platform I would probably answer your question about the qualities of our present leaders but judging from my experiences on this forum what I can say to you is "people have a right to vote for whoever".

Any update on the city manager in the cape ? Oh hold on i think judgement has been reserved for now. Let's hope it is for the better. Kilo, the people i do talk to are anti-anc at the moment but will still vote as i have said for the millionth time - EMOTIONS. I had this discussion with a police captain the other night who said to me he voted for anc last time but has no faith in them whatsoever. I asked him why vote for them - he said because they are the anc and they stopped appartheid.

I sincerely hope the cape overcomes its problems through the DA alliance in the next few years. I am an ex Capetonian, and still believe it to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I was wondering, considering the tribal lines issue raised earlier, could the lack of these tribal lines in Cape Town possible be the reason Capetonians are so laid back? (excepting obviously the ganglands between Bellville and Muizenberg)

In our families case my Great Grandfather's property that was in the family for 62 years and the only fixed asset the family had was expropriated for a song to make way for another elite white school in the 1950's.
Properties in that suburb are now worth millions.
Nobody could stand up against the regime in those days, even white folk.
You just obeyed what the Government said and did.
If the Government had to try that stunt today, the media would have a field day, but then on the other hand they would negotiate a decent sum of money which was not the case in the 1950's.
I have scratched the surface looking into the nasty expropriation the family had to endure and what might appear as a formal expropriation is anything but normal. It is apparent that a lot of extreme measures were used to ensure the acquisition of the property and looking deeper reveals more sinister people lurking in the background that worked for the Government, yet were involved in the deal.

Like i said i did not mean any offence but if you are so angry at white people and what they have done to you you need help. I got family members murdered by black people but I dont hate every black person I see how can you call yourself a christian if you just have hate for another race ?
I USED to be very angry at all white people for the injustices of apartheid but now I only detest (in a loving Christian way obviously ;) those few who still remain bigots and hypocrites and who cling to the old ways like oom Ajak here.
But many of you are confusing valid criticism with hatred ... see the remarks that Tutu and Steve's Biko son made recently and how you all jumped on your high horses without actually reading what they were trying to say.
Tutu and Biko really does not want to chase you lot into the sea ... they want things to become better for all of us ... why do you always assume the absolute worst and that others have a hidden agenda ???.
But I guess it is only a natural reaction considering our mutual sad past.
Also it is rather impossible for me to hate whites anymore ;).
My wife is one of them and she even voted for the Nats all her life but I love her to bits and our two "half" white kids I love more than life itself.
So I don't think I need help anymore mate ... have since moved on :).
