Hi, i am considering dropping my telkom line and going with 3G, my only problem at the moment is, i wont be able to send faxes anymore, seeing i wont have a telkom line,

Does anyone if there is any software, which and help me with this, i looked at WinFAX Pro, from Symantec, but i am not sure if it will work with 3G.

Check out http://www.fax2email.co.za/how_f2e_works.htm. I think IS hosts it and you only pay for faxes sent, not received.

Hi Liquid,

If you signup with mweb, receiving faxes will be free, however for sending
you will have to pay. Apparently you buy credits I think in amounts of R100.

I dropped my Telkom line and the mweb & other such fax services do work just remember that most of the free incoming ones only work nationally due to the 086 number not being accessible from outside the country. You can pay for another number with some of the suppliers though.

I forgot about this and had a panicky customer from the uk who after transferring a large amount of money tried to fax the transfer slip it and got a “no such number” lol

You can get an 084 internationally enabled fax for approx R295 per year - unlimited incoming faxes

Just some usefull/useless info as well;)

The 3G, HSPDA service is not really faster than adsl, if you read what they
mention in the ads, up to 1.8 mb, but that's not to say it will be the speed
at any given time. Apparently somebody mentioned that after testing, they found that international speeds were a bit higher than that for adsl. However for local browsing adsl still kicks a**! I surmise this is due to Vcom shaping bandwidth and priority is obviously for international.

Personally, I do very little local browsing. Internet Banking excluded;) .
