View Full Version : Frustrations at McDonalds

So the wife and I decided to surprise the kids and get McDonalds for supper. My wife however wants to find out if they have a burger that has a fillet of chicken and not a chicken patty.

Wife: "Do you have a burger that has a fillet of chicken inside and not a chicken patty"

cashier (after a few moments of puzzled silence): "You want fish?"

Wife: "No I want a burger with a piece of chicken and not a chicken patty."

cashier: "You want foldover?"

Wife: "Never mind, just give me a chicken burger."

It was worse than Windows 7 voice recognition, and that is saying a lot!

Brief Analysis
Mechanically separated chicken is real. Many food items such as hot dogs and chicken nuggets may indeed contain mechanically separated poultry. However, McDonald's chicken nuggets are no longer made from mechanically separated chicken.

My guess is that engrish is not this person's second language. I can see where some confusion could have come in with the "fillet" as they do have a "Filet-O-Fish" burger... I don't think they have a chicken fillet burger.

gregmcc

Cardboard or not - you can't beat their price. I'd rather have Macd's than spend a fortune at a place like Steers.

If you asked for a fillet-o-fish then maybe you would have got your chicken burger :)

I would think that it would be quite important to employ someone who has basic command of English. Yeah I reckon she got confused with Fillet-O-Fish. I know KFC has a burger that has a chicken fillet in. Our other option was King Steer burger at Steers, but that is just ridiculously pricey.

The Premium Spicy is my favourite too, has replaced the need for me to ever buy a KFC Zinger again. They accidentally gave me me ranch sauce once and I must say I have never in my life tasted something so disgusting. That ranch sauce is just rancid (smells like old shoes). Spicy sauce is awesome.

Surely you do not get a chicken fillet? It would be a chicken breast?

McD's isn't the tastiest or most healthy but when you damn hungry and feel like something that isn't healthy it is pretty damn good. Go through the drive through and come out with a Big Mac Mcmeal and 9 nuggets for less than R50. I'll take that.

No more, no less than the burger patties you buy at Pick and Pay.

How do I know... cos I have seen the boxes that the patties come in... and cooked a good few of them myself.

Now, the question you need to ask yourself is what kind of meat quality do store bought patties have?

Then why shouldn't we express our opinions, be they negative or positive?

You are welcome to; I think you are misunderstanding me...

Put it this way:

Johnny and Suzy are having a conversation about music. Suzy LOVES METAL!!!!! She hates all other music. Johnny loves Jazz, and really doesn't like Metal that much.

Suzy's opinion: "Metal is the best music genre, oh you are listening to Oscar Peterson? He is rubbish, I can't believe anyone listens to Jazz ewww."

Johnny's opinion: "I really like Jazz, it's my favourite music genre, oh you are listening to Dimmu Borgir? I must say I really don't enjoy metal, I would prefer to listen to Jazz. That guys screaming is really good though!"

Note how Suzy completely writes off Jazz as a musical genre and refers to it as rubbish, while Johnny says he doesn't enjoy listening to Metal and would rather listen to Jazz. Johnny does not write off metal as rubbish though, and he can appreciate that other people can listen to it and it is a legitimate music genre.

Now apply that same situation to McDonalds and Steers.

All that I'm objecting to is the way people express their opinions like they are facts.

Pooky, I'll join you on the flame grilled side (irony much? :)). I find its very fashionable for people to be 'disgusted' by MacDonalds.

Now, not everyone who dislikes them is 'following the herd', some people genuinely dislike it, and I think that's fine.

I for one love MacD's, but I like Steers and Wimpy too. Personally, the best meal in my world would be a Nandos Mild Wrap, with McD fries and a Colonel Burger as a finisher :D

I'm with Pooky here. Dislike all you want, be as opinionated as you wish, but hold off trashing the food, and by proxy the people who enjoy it.

you guys know that they transport their "beef" burgers in liquid form...

Same way we transport it out after eating them...

Then why do they look grey/off brown and have that weird texture?

It's the way they cook them. They are not grilled over an open flame (like Steers), they are cooked in a heavy flat griller for a precise amount of time. It's all automated. I mean it still takes a person (with gloves on) to precisely place the patty onto the griller... but it cooks for a precise amount of time and then they are all removed in the sequence they were placed on. I think the high heat makes the blood and fat congeal onto the patty... whereas over an open flame that would fall off into the fire. But it is all very hygienic, I promise you. They even have to change gloves every time they have handled raw meat.

Rubbish... who told you that? The burgers come frozen in a cardboard box. They are round and red like uncooked meat. They come in packs of eight with waxed paper wrapped around them. The name of the supplier is stamped on the cardboard box along with the date, batch number and expiry date.

Dafuq are MacD's?

I believe you, guess it's just my distaste for their food projecting into my imagining of what their products are/are not :o

Who says we do any more? I go there about once a year, when it's late and there's nothing else open. My girlfriend will order food, but the only I'll get is a McFlurry.

Subs is not cheap any more (then again i dont think cheap take aways exist anymore) but quality wise it's the best out of all of them.

Well the zinger wings are the only things I get

The Zinger is great value for money, you get the spice twice. On the way in and out. Not even a smorgasbord of hot curry and tandoori from Fordsburg gave the same ring sting as the bloody zinger.

Don't get me wrong, I like the taste of KFC... but it's just way too greasy and oily.
I have to basically try and not throw up from the nausea when I eat KFC because of all the grease.
