Cell C 3G,

I want to try a Cell C SIM in my MTN Huawei FastLink data card (that is unlocked as far as I know).

Can you please help me with the following info:

Under "Authentification" it asks for a "Number". MTN's is *99#, What is Cell C's?
Username: Leave Blank
Password: Leave Blank
APN: internet
IP: 196.031.116.250
What is the Authentication Protocol, CHAP or PAP?
Is the DNS Dynamic or Static? If static what should I enter?
Is the WINS Dynamic or Static? If static what should I enter?

Thanx!

With the MTN software as long as the APN is internet then it's ok. don't change anything else.

Thought Id try out cell C for a while, but having continuous problems accessing internet (mxit) using cell c on LG B2100. Cell C customer care, after 1hrs and 17mins of waiting, sent the settings and I could access the net for a while (not even 24hrs), but now its just not accessible. There isnt even the little GPRS sign (G) that comes up on the screen anymore.
Please someone send me manual settings or tell me what to do! I will not be phoning customer care again!!

I know that Cell C have been having a few problems with GPRS/EDGE. But other then that i also sometimes have problems but just keep trying to go on MXIT. Can i ask, can you access wap on your phone when you are not able to access MXIT. if so then it has something to do with your phone.

Well this last time, it shows like it will connect, then the hour glass appears, then it goes back to home/bookmark/profiles....

I've just been given the following settings:

init string: at+cgdcont=1,"ip","vdata"

number to dial: *99***1#

no user
no passwd

Please note that:
Port: 8080 - Must be used for WAP2 phones
Port 9201 - Must be used for WAP1 (older) phones.
This is also valid for all networks.

The init string for VirginMobile is:
at+cgdcont=1,"ip","vdata"
and for Cell C
at+cgdcont=1,"ip","internet"
The correct APN name is important.

Hi,I'm roaming on VC network most of the time, but get the slowest gprs speeds possible, how can i change the settings so that i can at least use edge(available in this area on VC) on my Sony E k800i and cell c sim? Thanks

Nephew

Unfortunately VC does not give Cell C roamers a lot of bandwidth.

If your phone/modem is EDGE capable, it will automatically use it when available, you don't have control over it.

that sucks!! Cell C should invest more in there networks.

Send a SMS with the word "Smartdata" to 0841559911 (should be a free sms)
- this will provision you with the internet APN on the network.

For the settings, dial the following (USSD) on your phone. (Its not a live service yet, that's why its currently a user-unfriendly/long code):

*117*36*359277000000000#

You should receive the settings. If you don't, please post again hear, I will see that you come right.

Open your phones' browser, and go to www.mxit.com/wap. If .com dont work, try .co.za , I'm not sure which one is. Hope this helps.

:(

I have a Cell C contract through Nashua Mobile (my phone: SE K800i).

On April the 1st I switched from a Casual Chat contract to Control Chat 400. All of a sudden my GPRS and MMS settings disappeared.

I have spoken to Nashua Mobile about this problem almost weekly since the problem occurred (I stopped counting at 9 calls). Each time, they send me the MMS and GPRS settings (which I have verified are correct based on your thread).
I keep on explaining to them that I already have the settings and that they simply need to be activated, but nothing's happening. No-one gets back to me and with every new call I have to explain my problem again.

My best bud has exactly the same phone, same contract and settings and her settings are working perfectly.

I've tried to contact Cell C directly to have the settings activated, but they can't help as I am subscribed to Nashua Mobile.

I am desperate! Any suggestions?

sms to 0841559911 was a manual provisioning service which is now being replaced by a automatic process.

When you put your Cell C sim in another phone now, you will automatically receive settings for that phone and be provisioned with internet and mms APN's.

Soon their will be a ussd code to manually request settings.

Hi Nephew,

I just need clarity as to weather this works for both Virgin mobile and Cell C users?

Nephew
29-05-2007, 02:16 PM
It is slightly different for VM. If you want settings sent to you phone for VM, find the SIM applications on your phone. In there look for the menu to "Request settings". That should trigger the system to send you the settings.

If this explanation is not clear enough or you still have a problem, reply here and I will try and find out the details and sort you out.

Nephew could you post the mms settings for windows mobile devices? I got my smartdata working through the Leaf site, but my mms isn't working.

Thanks

We send the settings out via our server. If you PM me your number and the IMEI and/or exact device make and model, I will send the settings to you.

Hey

We all know about *141# for balance enquiries and 14302.

whats stopping CellC to make it easy and quick to receive settings?

Vodacom and MTN are light years ahead here... 2 minutes and you have got wap and gprs settings!!! and anyother setting you would like to have with lots of options.

Eish man!

Get the sms menu thingy and all CellC customers will be happier. Because phoning for settings sucks big time :-P

Nephew

Yes, it is not best to have to phone for settings. That is why we are in the final stages of providing a subscriber request via USSD. I will post details here.

B.t.w. Not so sure if VC is ahead. I have been trying for 2 months to get MMS going on a VC sim, no luck :(. Cant request settings from website, down all the time, phoned, no luck.

can someone please tell me step by step how to set up an email account on my cellphone, Samsung E250.

Just dial *147# and the settings will be sent to your phone, you need to accept them and save them to a slot, default pin is 1234 for the settings.

There 2 settings that come down, one for surfing via the internet APN and another for MMS, once you have them both and saved on your phone turn your phone off and back on again, it is important to reset the phone otherwise you will not be able to use the new settings.

Once it's back on again after a minute or 2 you will get a G or an E on the top right of the screen meeinging that GPRS or EDGE network is available to you.

CellC has a big problem . I am in Soweto . When I have complained in the past I have been told that it is because of the reception area ie Siweto . But even in Bedford Gardens I frequently get : Poor signal , no connection to the internet , calls dropped and people complaining I have switched off my phone , when I nevr do .

Hi All

We have discontinued the SMS request service detailed at the top of the page. The Cell C network now will automatically identify new handsets joining the network, send out GPRS/MMS settings to the handset and provision data access.

This service can also be manually initiated via USSD by dialing *147# on your handset.

Cheers

I have been a cell c customer for a long time and I have never been able to connect with EDGE. I live in midrand, so I assume that it is available here. I have a SE K800I. Does anyone have some advice?

Nephew

From your phone key in *147# the press dial. This will activate you and send you the settings. Save it. Switch phone on/off to force a location update. Now try to surf. If you don't come right then PM me.

The service is working but why is connecting on GPRS and not EDGE. This is difficult to pick up as EDGE is an enhancement of GPRS and uses the same infrastructure.

Just wanted to let you know, I found the problem... a Bit embarrassed to say it, but the SE K800I doesn't support EDGE, and that is why it is only connecting to GPRS on Cell C.

Had my sim in a Nokia 6300 and it connected to EDGE, no problem. :-)
