The problem with voip, particularly in SA, is the low broadband penetration and therefore low userbase - well no more.
Voipdiscount ( www.voipdiscount.com ) have a new "web activated calls" voip service. The process is simple sign up - it will cost you 10 euro - then sign into your account. Enter the number you wish to call from and the number you wish to call. Click make call. Your phone will ring and once you are connected the other party will ring and you are connected.
Now here is the good part how little it costs. You pay the voipdiscount rate for both calls added, but many destinations are free. The SA rate is 1 euro cent.
So calling New Zealand for example will cost 0 + 1 = 1 euro cent per minute.
even calling another SA number is cheaper than telkom ie 2 euro cent per minute.
Anyone can use this provided they have some sort of connection to the net to initiate the call. You dont need broadband.
The quality is suprisingly good.
Please please set this up for all your friends, This could be a real telkom killer!!
