CellC have launched the above device which connects to your USB port and give you wireless access at EDGE speeds (216kbps).
The modem is free on a 500MB or a 1024MB package that cost you R350 or R499 a month respectively.
I know that edge is much slower that 3G or even HSDPA, but is the CellC offering any good?
Also, because it is a USB modem, will it allow for wireless internet connection sharing via WindowsXP ICSharing?
On vodacom youll get 500mb for R280 (from next month ) for 3g speeds ( not HSDPA ) and get a free Data card...better option according to me..saving is
R70 X 24 months = R1680-00 and u getting a superior modem

Look at it this way if you want to use the vodafone data card on you desktop pc you need a PCMICA to USB or PCI adapter costing anywhere from R200 to R400. and I had 3G from vodacom there data cards Suck!! Putting it bluntly. I had three different cards. The first one stoped working because it was a stolen card as vodacom stated to me. The second was OBF (out of box failure) Then when i finally got the third card the 3G base station in my area was failty so it took vodacom 3 months to come back to me. (they still haven't fixed it. you can connect but no data comes back) Then i phoned head office and they said i can bring everything back. so i did and they still have not refuned me. And they are still debiting my account for R599 a month for a service i don't have! Hows that for service
Then i went for the Cell C EDGE modem first try it worked perfect! i am getting 28 Kilobytes a sec. Where 3G gives you 45 Kilobytes a sec. Ok it might be slower then 3G but Cell C has more EDGE Coverage Then Vodacom has 3G.
So i give up Vodacom 50% owned by Telkom I CAN SEE THAT!!!!!!!!
Cellc Edge is not even equal to MTNs GPRS

Hi,
I see from the Cell C website that a CD is supplied with the modem. Can someone tell me what is on the CD. Is it similar to the Vodafone datacard software?
Where can I find screenshots of the software?

It should work, i know that VM is having problems with data cards, but i have not tested the USB Data Modem as yet with a VM Sim card. In the Cell C software just cahnge your APN to 'vdata' then try a VM sim in it. Also make sure data is active on your VM sim.

I know that you can get the USB modem from Cell C shops, but I cant find one. I found contact details on cellc.co.za but the people that I phoned were clueless.
Can someone please help me with the phone number (and location) of a store in Cape Town that I can get the USB modem from.

From me for R700. Yes you can use a Virgin Simcard - by adding the initialisation string at+cgdcont=1,"ip","vdata" to the Advance tab of the modem properties.

I did look in the Blue Route and Caavendish some months ago. They didn't stock it. Probably because they are too expensive for what they provide.

What parts are you from and do you have stock or was it a once off unit. thanx
