I would provide links but I'm capped here at home so can't get to the story on slashdot.
Anyone got a local mirror of the .deb? :)
Good News.
Got Picasa (http://picasa.google.com/) running for several months now. :)
Here is the link (http://slashdot.org/articles/06/05/26/0310229.shtml) on slashdot.
"Hi, everyone. Today I'm pleased to announce that we're making Picasa, our photo management application, available for Linux. This is a pre-beta labs (http://labs.google.com/) release and since we're still learning on how to best make software for Linux, we're asking that you submit your bugs as you find them. Picasa for Linux uses Wine internally; this shows a bit in the interface, but it works even better than we had hoped. Download it and check it out! A list of supported distributions can be found in the FAQ. We hope our patches to Wine will help make it easier for everyone to run Windows apps on Linux and other Unix-like systems. Thanks to our pals at CodeWeavers who did much of the heavy lifting, and to Marcus Meissner, whose libgphoto support patch was a welcome surprise."
D/L link for labs is not working?
This link (http://picasa.google.com.nyud.net:8080/linux/download.html) is available. Supports Ubuntu.

BTTB : As for as I know, this is built against winelib, not emulated with WINE. There is a world of difference. It is similar to what Borland did with Kylix

Thanks for providing the links BTTB. No hope for a local mirror then? ;)

I can host it locally for you, but I can only d/l it later after the kids are finished playing games.
I will send you a PM with the link. OK. ;)
Let me know if that suits you and which version you want.
The choices are:
# Free Download (.rpm) Red Hat/Fedora/Suse/Mandriva x86 20Mb
# Free Download (.deb) Debian/Ubuntu x86 20Mb
# Free Download (.bin) 25Mb

Thanks JStrike.
I am a Linux noob, but I really wan't to get into it. Been using Open Office lately and loving it.
I have a Mandrive 2006 DVD on my desk as we speak.

Well, I was sceptical is this would work when I heard is uses wine to run, but it works really well adn I'm using it full time already!
Plus, when it uses wine, its not like to have to run wine first and then run the app - oh no, this is very clever that is just runs like a normal app and I think uses wine libraries to run on linux.
If this works out, which it should, then Google Earth should be next!!!

What would be pretty cool is if Google takes on the project of perfecting Wine - so that people like me can understand how to use it (anyone got any links for me? ;)) and so that alot more programs work

Looks at using wpa_supplicant or xsupplicant is the answer for you:

Ah thanks :) - will take a look (strange my Google searches didn't find these ...)
But that I think is the main reason that Linux has not yet caught on - everything is still to difficult to get working, even installing Picasa required the use of the command line - why couldn't I just click on the .deb file and wow - it's done?
