Graphics Cards NVIDIA GeForce GX2 (Quad) 1024 MB GDDR3 500 MHz Core 600 MHz Memory

lilDeath

hhhmmm quad SLI ...
does that mean it is going to use 4 PCIE slots... seeing as one card takes up 2 slots...!!!

lilDeath
31-05-2006, 03:53 PM
think its a different card in the link from Jah...
the memory clocks speeds are different from Person's one:
600 MHz vs 1200MHz

SLI is overrated and too expensive...all i want is a DX10 compliant card in 2007.

Jah

Same memory clock, the 1200MHz actually refers to the data rate. You need to double the memory clock to get the data rate.

okay, my bad ;)

Jah

Its confusing cause different people give different values. If you look at that same article when they show the cards they benchmark against, they use both ways of showing it.
NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX 512 MB GDDR3 650 MHz Core 800 MHz Memory
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256 MB GDDR3 550 MHz Core 1.7 GHz Memory
think it has to do with the memory bus, but not sure

hhmmm...indeed@Jah!!

I was drawn to the price....
"One can obtain a system for around $5,000 but the 30" monitor will run you an additional $2,000+. So, if your wallet is thick and your appetite for graphics insatiable, a system with Quad SLI is right for you. If the 30" monitor is too expensive, there is the Matrox TripleHead2Go that allows the user to hook up three 19" panels for a maximum resolution of 3840x1024."

and further on:
"On a final note, Quad SLI is not for the Do-It-Yourselfer. Nvidia has made this clear, and in a dialogue with Brian Burke, Nvidia PR Manager, Quad SLI will only be available from system integrators such as Falcon Northwest, iBuyPower, CyberPowerPC, Dell, Alienware, and Widow. This instantly means a markup in cost, as you have to pay for labor, warranties, and addition items. In return you get a fully working system and the ability to sleep at night knowing that there is someone else responsible to fix the system if you play around with it too much. And for $7,000-10,000, you had better fork over the extra for the better warranty..."

Double

No. What they mean by "taking up two slots" is that the card is two slots wide. On most of todays motherboards the PCI and PCIe slots are spaced in such a way that it's still possible to place two of these cards. But at the expence of a normal PCI card or two.

ie. Your slots would look like this(from right to left): PCIe, PCI, PCIe, PCI

So when you place one of these wide cards in one of the PCIe slots, It'll block off the normal PCI slot next too it.

Here's a pic of the ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe (http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=15&l3=0&model=744&modelmenu=1). Just click on Enlargement.

Buy Asus then its only two slots used for quad. Anyway the other slots would hardly be used, only for a Phys -X card maybe all else in on board, need nothing more!

Well we dont know the price so who knows if they're interested.

This is actually making me think about hanging off the XPS M1710 with the 7900GTX 512MB, i mean how long could it take for the mobile equivelant too come out .....

and 8800GTX and 8800GT are out on Friday :P

Nope!
GF8 is NV50, and that hasn't even taped out let alone hit TSMC/UMC/FC.
ie, its still going through ASIC optimization in R&D
GF8 is due in Q4 2006 and that's at least September this year.
Also
I would kill myself if I had to buy this, then Crysis comes out with DX10 content that I can't use because I have a 1000 bhp of DX9 class performance...

yes, and if you SLI them, there goes the other PCIe and PCI slot...
THUS 4 slots

Yes, 4 slots in total (2 PCIe and 2 normal PCI) but I answered what you asked here:

hhhmmm quad SLI ...
does that mean it is going to use 4 PCIE slots

The answer is no. You won't need 4 PCIe slots. Just 4 slots (again 2 PCIe and 2 normal PCI slots) spaces total.
