Hi there Mr Beep

I have a very small suggestion:

Why don't u guys have a "local only" account with openbrowse?

I like your 2gig int + 28 gig local + openbrowse int 192... But i would preffere 30 gigs local + openbrowse 192 + NO INTERNATIONAL!

I dnt have any need for international bandwidth besides the odd google search and checking my email which i can use openbrowse for...

I dnt care about p2p as i can get all that from an OC lan....

Do u guys think u could consider a local only account with openbrowse 192?

This would be greatly appreciated

Thanks alot

this is a good suggestion.
But OpenBrowse doesn't work very well sometimes, atm I have no international access with openbrowse.

Yep ... throws up a "proxies fail test - proxies not available".

I would rather have a 30GB international than just local, I spend a lot of time roaming on the internet, and sometimes the proxy gets in the way. The fact that someone is able to sell just local bandwidth for such, regardless of price is beyond terrible ... The simple fact people would actually buy local only is even worse, we all so starved for bandwidth it seems we will buy just about anything just to be able to surf a little more.

I do know what you saying, but 30 international would give you what you need and accomodate more people out there at the same time. We should be fighting for greater bandwidth not trying to pay more for less...

Hey headstrong,

THank you so much for your suggestion. We have been looking at such a package, and are hoping to have a launch date soon.

Re: OpenBrowse reliability. We have recently added Load Balancing, that will be perfected today. I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Do u have any launch dates or proposed pricing ...

Thanks

DGremlin,

I'm a gamer... I only play on South african servers...

I have no real need for international bandwidth, although i definetly do feel cheated having to opt for "local only access". I do however have to suppress these fealings of " cheap skate " beacause it's my wallet that makes the decisions not my head....!

Understand now DGremlin?

This is certainly a good idea. I just hope MrBeep can find some kind of cost-effective way of offering it to us at a good price :)

isnt that a good idea ?

What would people be willing to pay for local-only bandwidth? I mean seriously, be resonable now

headstrong
10-06-2006, 01:14 PM
Datapro is selling it @ 30 gig!!! I would be prepared to pay about R15

hj2k_x
10-06-2006, 01:17 PM
Thats 10 gigs for R150. You can get a 2gig/30 account for R165

edit: Which works out at only R5.15/gig. So it would have to be cheaper than that :p

MrBEEP
10-06-2006, 03:37 PM
We launched a trial package yesterday to show our competitors just how expensive they really are.

The package expires at the end of the weekend, however, if you purchase an account, it will last until month end, or until your GB's are up. If successfull, and people take interest in it, we will make it a permanent package.

10GB's of FULL SPEED, Unrestricted local bandwidth for R119.

That works out to roughly R11.90c per GB, if I am not mistaken.

headstrong
10-06-2006, 05:20 PM
I take back what i said about R15 per gig coz i 4got that open web already sell it 1 gig + 10 gig for R121...:)

MrBeep, thanks so much

Does it however include openbrowse? If so, then it would be the best offer around without a doubt!

If not, what about adding an option to add openbrowse for an extra, minimal, fee?

Thanks alot for your great work

hj2k_x
10-06-2006, 05:51 PM
I agree, at that price it needs to include openbrowse...

MrBEEP
10-06-2006, 05:53 PM
I thought it was already cheap compared to R30 per GB. Adding OpenBrowse at no extra charge will unfortunately not be financially viable.

Hey MrBeep,

I understand that it wouldnt be financially viable for you, hence "adding an option to PAY for openbrowse"

How much would the above cost without the 2 gig international..? That is what i want

hj2k_x
10-06-2006, 06:33 PM
Indeed. I am with u on that one man. But apparently, despite the international making up most of the cost, this is not something that can be done by isps...

There were some calculations in another thread...

RazorSA

More calculations:

If a 192K-IS-2GB-28GB account costs R229 from OpenWeb. (That is 192K OpenBrowse, IS account, 2GB Intl, 28GB local)

And a IS-2GB-28GB account costs R171 from OpenWeb. (Again, IS account, 2GB Intl, 28GB local - NO OpenBrowse)

Then: The 192K OpenBROWSE package costs R58 for the 28GB of local bandwidth. (R229 - R171 = R58)

So.... If you were to purchase a 10GB local only account for R119 from OpenWeb, then you should be willing to pay R20.71 for the OpenBrowse service as an 'add-on', for those 10GB. ((R58 / 28GB) * 10GB = R20.71)

But, that will probably NOT be financially viable for OpenWeb, since they are obviously relying on Contention Ratios to make their money !!!!!

So, you will probably end up paying the full R58 for the OpenBrowse add-on for any account.

SO: The cheapest account for local only bandwidth at the moment is: The 2GB-IS-28GB account !!!!! At only R5.70 / GB !!!!! (R171 / 30GB = R5.70)

Also from OpenWeb !!!!

Also, MrBEEP, I am really sorry to say this, BUT:

Your [NEW!! 1GB + 10GB One Month Stand Accounts from OpenWeb, only R121!] account is bull$hit.

- I am assuming that you are aiming it at a niche market, who either can't afford the 2GB-IS-28GB account, OR who just need a little something extra to see them through the end of the month!

For an extra R50, they would get an additional 1GB Intl bandwidth, AND another 19GB of local bandwidth!!!!

I am hoping that this is a niche market, and you do not push this as your main account to people who assume that this is "the best bang for their buck!!!!"

Nice1 Razor!

Why now need clarity from MrbEEp ...

headstrong
11-06-2006, 12:45 AM
Razor i dnt think that many people would be willing to pay R50 *12 = R600 an year just for extra bandwitdth which they might not use..

Thats why he has both options.. :)

MrBEEP
11-06-2006, 10:23 AM
We sell many different accounts to suit many different types of people.

Like Ford who starts with the KA that looks like an octopus, we start with the 1GB + 10GB for R121.

They end off with the ***us, we end off with the 10GB + OpenBrowse 192k.

Different folks have different strokes and needs.

If we offer only one package, we would be called communist, and that is certainly NOT a tag I want to carry.

SO, our 1GB + 10GB local for R121 might be "bullsh*t", but there is a need for it, so we will sell it.

MrBEEP,

I understand that, and I make note of that in my post.

The topic started off with the question: "Why don't u guys have a "local only" account with openbrowse?"

There was a little discussion, and then you came along and suggested that you are currently selling an account: "10GB's of FULL SPEED, Unrestricted local bandwidth for R119."

Then there was talk about adding onto that account an OpenBrowse add-on package. There followed a lot of discussion about OpenBrowse, and which account really was the cheapest.

I ended off with a little price comparison, and came to my conclusion.

Then, I made a comment that I hoped that you were not pushing this 10GB account as your "best" account. (Because it might be the cheapest, but NOT the most economical for local bandwidth)

I also made reference to a niche market... I took account of that in my post!

SO: I think I was justified in my comments, they are only an opinion, and you should have read them properly. I was not taking a dig at you...

Then you should rather get all of the computers to connect to the internet using their own PPPoE dialup connection... Then you could also keep one account private, so only you can use it !!!!!

Then, you can ensure that people use the correct accounts to surf, email and download local p2p, etc !!!!!

I know bro. I am just justifying why we offer those.

As for OpenBrowse 96k and 128k being dropped: The price restructuring email might have been misread.

It stated that OpenBrowse will remain Unchanged, ecxept for the 3GB + OpenBrowse 192k package that changes to R269 per month.

We are still to make a decision regarding a Local Only account with OpenBrowse for surfing. It is a good idea, but i'm not sure whether there is big demand for it.

OpenBrowse currently only allows for browsing internationally.
