How about a Macintosh section covering hardware, software, and third party solutions?

I notice a fair amount to news and questions regarding the mighty Apple - face it every time Jobs burps its news these days - but sometimes they get buried in the different sections.

Perhaps the ideal place would be as a subforum in the General Hardware and Software section? I'm not going to claim its definitely going to make life easier for our overworked mods but on the flip side I dont see it making life harder. :)

:) - dont let it be thought that I was jumping on the me too bandwagon - I didnt notice the New Sub Forum - Cellphones (http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=46434) thread until after posting - if I had I probably would have waited as I think that is a fine idea too.

Since you supported me - I second it - I am also interested in the new Apple Intel these days - maybe this forum could include iPods???

So RPM - when can we see the Cellular device (AKA cellphones) and Apple forums?
I see there are already some queries re cellphones in the Vodacom broadband forum again.....

I must say when I got my iPod, the first thing that struck me was the quality and obvious effort that went in the packaging of the product... - not just chucked into a box with a label on - even the accessories.

adsl3g : Yep, you see that attention to detail in almost all of their products. I am almost constantly amazed by this.

Just for example in the MacBooks and MacBook Pro's :

MagSafe power adapter
Magnetic "latch"
Built in iSight
Ambient light senser that adjusts the brightness of the display (MacBook Pro)
Backlit Keyboard (MacBook Pro)
How wireless just works without having to change settings, etc
And many more

There was a ton of thought put into every detail

What also got to me is the no of power plug adaptors for every conceivable plug in the world is also included and everything neatly wrapped in high quality plastic bags. This was for the AC/ DC adaptor for the iPod and they don't just plug on the existing plug, they replace the existing plug. Even the USB plug has a custom made plastic cover:eek: - I could not get myself to throw the unused thingies away (even though I'll never use them.

A great indication of the quality of the packaging are all the digg stories that pop up the day a new product is released dedicated to unpacking the device.

I'd be interested in a mac section... certainly something we have to deal with sometimes (I'd still love to know how to get one onto a domain) and Mac support sucks balls (http://www.biggercheese.com/index.php?comic=629).

I had the same experience when I got my iPod at the end of 2004. :)

If the iPod is my first taste of Apple then I want tons more :D Pitty I dont have enough cash ATM. :(

Regarding the sub forum, you got another vote for that. I think its a great idea.

Well, seeing as Apple will not be developing a new OS and is switching to Windows soon questions would be more MS and hardware based in the near future methinks. Dunno if it will be all that different from PC related questions soon.

They even switched to Intel CPUs. Have I got it wrong? Their peripherals might be different story though.

Similarly, I would like a Dell Forum (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=46434)

Thanks :)Why? There's already General Hardware and Software (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=122) - I suggested the Mac Forum as much for the operating system (a la the Linux forum) as for the hardware. Dell is hardly unique.

Ps - thanks for spamming this thread.

RPM doesn't seem too interested in a MAC (or maybe rather Apple) forum. I think it will definitely benefit alot of people here, as I have crossed many paths with especially bwana wrt apple questions.

Being the proud owner of 2 iPods, and of course now a Macbook Pro :D, there are alot of questions lingering in the air wrt the OS, virtual machines, the funky hardware etc etc.

So I would love to see an Apple subforum ... Like they say, "An Apple a day keeps the virus away" :D

IMO a Macintosh sub-forum is needed, but not a Dell sub-forum.

lilDeath
24-07-2006, 12:56 AM
Ye, seems the need is there.
Wasn't really serious about the Dell forum. There are very rarely any questions or issued raised about Dell in this forum. This is probably because they have very good support locally, and as per my experience. :)

Appears that MAC isn't that well known or supported yet locally.

Just wanted to make it known that if it is based on amount of products and technologies, Dell most likely have more. In this regard, one can then just as well have a Dell forum. :p

Good on ya, mate. :D
