Good thing he was shorter than the other guy.
Ha ha ... actually I think Soccer is such a frustrating game to play (equally frustrating to watch), I'm not surprised that after 90+ minutes he got out of hand. The amount of cheating that goes on in a single game is ridiculous. Shirt grabbing, diving, etc. Imagine if rugby was played like soccer.??
Now why do they say "He won a free kick for his team"... hmmm....

I think this is a load of BS .... how can you give him player of the tournament after a stunt like that .... all the extra effort that fifa have put in to stop the bad tackles, etc. have been negated by them endorsing this act of zidane. As with everything ... money talks .... I bet adidas had planned on giving him that award even before the tournament kicked off .... note that he has a contract with them till 2017 .... what better way to sell more shoes, etc. than getting the man of the tournament for the last world cup doing for u??

I think that he did the right thing! His mother's honour was more important to him that a game (his job) and he took the appropriate action!

One foul doesn't make you a bad footballer.
The award is Golden Ball, not Golden-clean-record-with-no-fouls.

FIFA could strip Zidane of award (http://www.iolworldcup.co.za/breaking_news/story.php?news_id=1476).
How can they take it away from him after awarding it to him when they knew full well what he did in the final BEFORE they gave him the award? Regardless of WHEN it was decided.

let's face it, he was the most brilliant footballer on the field throughout the w/c in many people's opinions - despite the fact he was one of the oldest. This WC had so little brilliance in it at all... not to mention some pretty poor reffing... My personal fav tho was Argentina's Carlos Tévez - he was like watching the old DM.

The award is Golden Boot, not Golden-clean-record-with-no-fouls.
That's why they have separate Fair Play awards. ;)

Yes, but that award is meant to be for the best player of the tournament ... which means ... take everything into account ... not just his style of play ...
and this is hardly saying that he must have a clean record ... but he should commit blatent fouls ... especially when the ball is no where near him.
I am or rather I was a zidane fan .... but such aggression on the field is totally uncalled for .... regardless of what may have been said ....
If the guy said something to him ... why not just respond accordingly ... without getting physical.

I know, so if you've comitted a few fouls, it doesn't mean you can't win the Golden Ball award.

Remember how Maradona left the international game in disgrace? but that hasn't changed the fact that he is one of the greatest ever.

Lol, yeah I know. :)
lucifir seems to think that "Golden Ball" means "Golden Record" i.e. 0 fouls, good behaviour, etc.
I was just trying to point out to him that "Golden Ball" is about performance etc.

I guess we all handle fame differently... and we dont know how until we are faced with it.
Zidane's gonna speak about what happened on French TV channel Canal Plus in 40 minutes.
