why don't they get a good channel,,, like Sci-Fi instead of more kids crap???

'DStv platform translates into more choice and deeper enjoyment for our subscribers'

Yeah Sci-Fi channel was one of the best reasons to get DSTV. Or maybe even get Comedy Central or HBO. Instead they're adding more of the same things that we already have.

#1 Bring back sci-fi. I fail to understand how a 3rd/4th children's channel can be more economically viable than the Sci-Fi channel. Us geeks have way more moola than the kiddies, and often are not able to breed... :D

#2 I can see DSTV farking this up by running unsuitable advertisements - such as they have done on Cartoon Network in the past.

#3 Can you say "endless reruns". Images of Mythbusters being shown EVERY FARKIN day at 8pm come to mind.

So, I'll withhold my screams of joy for now.

Agreed. Back in the dark ages, when I was still single(ish), I got DSTV only because of that channel - and then they cancelled it. Now, the wife likes her "shows" and we have kept it. Had I still been single, I would now have no DSTV and an IS news account ;)

I pay over r400 for dstv a month, dont want to have more children channels. There must be other channels that they can get from the UK.I'm sick of the repeats we have to see.

But damn, at least give us Sci-Fi back, and try and get HBO and Comedy Central!

I remember the month Sci-Fi closed. It was star trek the next generation all the way. My how I enjoyed that. I really liked the sci-fi channel.

If this disney channel does have the likes of gummi bears and duck tales it will at least have some lure for me.

comedy central or HBO would blow me away. hence for that reason we will not get it.

Most probably!

The only reason they are adding Disney is to cash in on more ads targeting the youth. I say bring on Fox News, HBO, FX, and Showtime! :p

Well there seems to be a big demand for Sci-Fi, HBO and Comedy Central.

How about we all leave a comment or suggestion for these channels on Hellopeter? Multichoice actively participates there...

I'll start the petition and refer them to this thread.

The main cost of DSTV is M-Net and the Sports Channels really. I suspect that this channel is not gonna affect subscription that much.

I can't see where to comment on hellopeter, so I'll say it here. I'd like a metal/alternative channel like MTV2 or Kerrang! (http://www.kerrang-tv.co.uk/).

Please drop that MTVBase nonsense, I agree with all the other guys about HBO and comedy central, I'm not a scifi buff, but if they want scifi channel, give it to them!!

That's all,
Thank you

Multichoice give us a break!

Dump those utter rubbish 1million supersport channels and give us at least scifi, comedy, hbo and playboy channels. C'mon 99'999% of subscribers didn't join up for junk like supersport 3x100000000 and hordes of funky chinese, arabic, italian, parlaiment, mtvbase, go, geraas etc.. stuff.

Give us a bouquets that we want. Here's a tip .... first rule of customer service: Give the customer what he wants not what you think he want's.

They made sure not to show any ads, they even bragged about it and then cut the channel because it wasnt viable. The marathons were nice and all but it was just to finish the seasons out IMO.

Oh - and what did they suggest as an alternative - Mnet, ActionX and Go - all multichoice channels.

Looks like alot of repeats/combis of the more popular series and "recess" times. Why do i get the feeling the Disney channel is only going to run during specific "child-friendly" hours too?

Either way, there's one series/episode i noticed on the schedule , it's called "GO FIGURE" ...lol ..go figure.

You guys have to be realistic....we can't get american channels the broadcasting rights just don't work that way. If you want to see which channels we could possibly get (If DSTV was interested) go go have a look what www.sky.co.uk is broadcasting.

If we get something like HBO it won't be the american verion ragther some kind of watered down version with the movies Multichoice bought the rights for.... and Sci Fi we can only hope to the UK version.

True, but if they are compressing the movie channels and MNET due to limited bandwidth somewhere to make room for other garbage, then rather drop the garbage and give me more bandwidth.

So when do they start, My kids are anxious! Hope it is better than the Cartoon network c@rp!

[QUOTE] 08 Aug: DStv goes Disney

For the first time, the kids TV brand Disney Channel will be available to over 1.3 million MultiChoice DStv subscribers across South and sub-Saharan Africa - Disney Channel has signed a multi-year deal with MultiChoice to bring the Disney Channel to subscribers from September 2006.

"We are delighted that Disney Channel continues to extend global reach and connect to children in this region. The launch in Africa represents a huge milestone in expanding Disney to this enormously important developing area," says John Hardie, executive vice president and managing director, Walt Disney Television, EMEA.

"With their expertise in African markets, our partners DStv offer us the opportunity to make Disney Channel the leading kids brand across the continent".

According to MultiChoice, Disney Channel Worldwide represents the most successful portfolio of kids' channels in the world, and reaches more than 600 million viewers in over 100 countries in the US, Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Latin America and soon in Africa. Disney Channel properties continue to expand rapidly into new markets across the world, playing a key role in introducing the Disney brand to new consumers.

Highlights of programming will be:
• Live action series: That's So Raven, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and the new Hannah Montana.
• Disney Channel Original Movies, including High School Musical.
• Contemporary animated series such as Kim Possible and American Dragon.
• Entertaining and educational pre-school shows such as Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Disney's Little Einsteins and coming next year, the My Friends Tigger and Pooh.

So...what happened to the Disney channel?
Same as pupa's kids, my kids begged me not to cancel my subscription which would have come into effect today.
But, as usual, NOCHOICE delivered on their promises of giving us less to watch.

Anybody have an idea as to WHEN the channel will eventually launch, if ever?

AFAIK they are busy sorting out some backhaul issues. If you have a look at channel 82 you will see the space has already been made.
