Here's a little history first
Bwana, you can block Please call mes if you are on vodacom - don't know about the other providers. i did it a while ago but cannot remeber the USSD commands - I'll scratch around and see if I can get them - I think I did post it here.Well I blocked them - or at least I thought I did cos one - from MTN - just got through.
I mistakenly, it seems, thought that by electing to block the PCM's they'd all be blocked.
Are there any avenues available in SA to combat spammers of the SMS variety?

So, is there an recourse I can take against this spam?
MTN is obviously spamming me as each PCM contains an unsolicited advert and Vodacom is actively permitting it to happen by refusing to block it as promised.

bwana, if it's coming from a regular number then just call the network and say someone brainless is pestering you. That is the most effective way. Another way is to wait 'till 3am and then call them a few times - that's a dead cert.:)
I also tried the "block please call me" function and found it hopeless.
The reason the sms comes with an ad is so that the networks don't have to charge anyone for the free sms. It is sponsored by that company. The fact that an sms costs them like next to nothing anyway is purely academic ;)

I understand that the ads "pay" for the service but sending them unsolicited makes them spam.

You can turn those 'please call me's' off - I did it a while back cause I kept on getting them from an ********* who had the wrong number - damn can't remember how to do it....

You must have a very easy / popular number ;)
Is it possible that it can it be on a test procedure somewhere on how to send PCM's? :D

I tried doing a search for this but did find anything relevant.
I've got this idiot who keeps calling, sms'ing and sending PleaseCallMe's late at night or early in the morning (between 12pm and 7am).
He doesn't seem to understand English or Afrikaans and he doesn't seem to get the message that I don't want to talk to him. It doesn't matter if I talk calmly or swear profusely.
Please tell me there's a way to totally block his number (I can't find an option for this on my phone, SonyEricsson K750i). Needless to say this is getting pretty old now, its been weeks.
Any suggestions?

Vodacom could block this in a second - be interesting to see if they're willing to. In the mean time you could assign the number a silent ring tone.

I can assign a silent ring tone to a number, but with my N70 I cannot assign different ring tones to different numbers.

Have you logged it with Vodacom?

no, what do you mean, though?
Can you block it for me if I give you the number?

Not sure. Customer Care do have a process though to resolve these situations.
Mail Customer Care (customercare@vodacom.co.za) and see what they say.

I resolved something similar with Vodacom. I asked them to call the guy and explain that "Phindi" didn't live at my address, despite his protestations and accusations that I was not letting him speak to her. He did and that episode was resolved. Lately I've been getting more. The wrong number callers are extremely persistant nowadays. What happened to the days of "Sorry wrong number". Now it's like "Phindi da da da da?" ....."No phindi here!" ... "Da da da da dad da Phiindi" ---- until I hang up, or they suck their teeth loudly & scowl something rude and then hang up.
Sadly I haven't been able to persuade a Vodacom operator to repeat their intervention. I suppose it's just too much effort for them.

hi
you can block please call me's from vodacom but there is a catch. before you can do this you need to send a please call me. helpful hint from the VMM department.
