Yeah its a lot, but at this stage the cost of not employing someone in that league would be greater.

Lol ja propably.

my question is just, what happens if he doesnt deliver? i mean sure pay him 1.8mil but if we dont even qualify for the world cup? does he pay it back ? or does he just go back to brazil and live on his millions?

The host nation automatically qualifies

The host nation automatically qualifies

THATS NOT MY POINT. my point is, if he doesnt deliver, like say we lose all our matches 10 - 0, what happens then? somehow he needs to be able to justify he's salary surely?

chiskop
29-08-2006, 10:39 AM
As hosts of the World Cup, we have already qualified.

Edit- whoops I type too slow.

Its like anyone's salary - they employ them hoping they will acheive certain goals. If they don't, all you can do if fire them and try someone else. Salaries don't come with a money back guarantee.

So is the salary actually 1.8 mil per month or is that his whole contract, what?

1.8m sounds very high to me per month

Where's the money coming from?

I think it's insane, HOWEVER it is the norm worldwide for national team coaches to get paid like that.

If we want a really good team we have to pay. Easily 80% of the country want SA to do really well in football so it makes it acceptable then. Kind off :)

ok, so what ... uhm, course must I go and do to get that much ;) :D

Gavin: Only the team can win a match, not the coach. Bafana Bafana have no chance because most of the (good) players either are:

(a) Overseas (and therefore unwilling to come to practices)
(b) Retired
(c) Too lazy and demotivated to have the gees to win a match.

There's this little four week course called the World Cup. Admission to the course is pretty tough, but at the end it looks pretty good on your CV.

Why not pay him based entirely on performance? IMHO, all coaches of all sports should be paid according to their performance. Period.

It's exorbitant and I don't think he'll do much better than a local coach who understands South African conditions would have. These guaranteed millions are going to somebody who in addition to knowing nothing about SA football and its politics will only be starting in February, with the crucial Nations Cup qualifiers already underway. So he's either going to demolish a budding team and start afresh or inherit someone elses team in the middle of the campaign, no amount of millions will make this transition smooth!

SAFA is funded by the gubment, so in other words the taxpayer pays his salary. Why was I not consulted...?

lol. another problem, do you think some oke from orlando pirates will "play his heart out" so that a oke from brazil can justify getting 1.8million a month while getting himself hardly anything probably?

they could've given him something like "half now, and the other half when we get to the semi-finals of the world cup"

I just can't believe that SAFA honestly thinks that some guy who couldn't win the World Cup when he had a team full of superstars is going to suddenly come up with a miracle and get us to the quarters. This guy's here to get his retirement package. That's it. Bafana will be eliminated early and Perrera will be watching the final from a sunny beach in Brazil while counting his millions.

Think about it. When you're getting R1.8 million/month regardless, where's the incentive to really work your @ss off!

At the end of the day it's a job.

It's like saying no one should earn a salary and that they should only work on commission.

Personally i think a local coach like messrs barker or sono would have been a lot cheaper with much better results in the end. This is just going to end like with all the other foreign coaches. They're going to suck, coach is going to throw a tantrum about lack of commitment from the players, take his golden handshake, and SA football's a couple mill poorer. Then it's off to find the next overprices, underperforming big-name foreign coach.

Erm, no, it is not just a job, if it were then anyone can do it. Some people who are relatively incapable hold down jobs where they should not, yet still receive exorbitant "performance" bonusses (Papi and his predecessor are two good examples). I'm not suggesting a commission, but rather accountability in return for the immense salary.

If he produces the goods ...then its ok but maybe they should go for pay per perfomance

It's NOT taxpayers money. His salary is funded out of around R200 mil Fifa (can't remember exact figure)payed SAFA in advance.Heard it today in a discussion on GHFM.

Parreira lands in SA

Friday September 01, 2006 10:18 - (SA)

Bafana Bafana's new coach, Carlos Parreira, arrived in South Africa today to sign his contract with the South African Football Association, the SABC reports.

Parreira landed at Johannesburg International Airport this morning but none of the Safa representatives were at the airport to meet him.

Parreira is scheduled to meet with Bafana Bafana's caretaker coach, Pitso Mosimane ahead of Bafana Bafana's African Cup of Nations qualifying game against Brazzaville Congo on Saturday.

Parreira is set to be paid a whopping R1.8 million monthly salary as coach of Bafana Bafana.

That is insane!!!!!

Not quite clueless. SAFA gets money from the government and that's a fact. Yes they have sponsors, but they still get tax payers money.
