That's not all... check the >R500 a@$-raping they've added to the upgraded macmini. There's no justifying these prices, particularly since apple seem to have made a concerted effort to bring in the entry level iMac at under $1000.

Surely the price changes can be as a result of the weaker R-$ exchange rate? I don't know what the prices were, so I might be wrong

I did a quote on the MacBook Pro last week ....
Freaking expensive!!!

I also don't like the fact that you can customise very little... :(

ZA store is not an Apple store ... they are the official S.A distributors so they can charge anything they want and obviously the Mac geeks working in ad agencies are a rather a well heeled lot.

Apple need to get an official presence here in SA but you can rest assured that will be protested.

Depends on the reseller agreement they have with Zastore. Resellers always charge a premium here in SA and it sucks.

Yip ZA Store is run by Core, who are the official SA distributors unfortunately.

Well the ZA store have always been quite a bit cheaper than the rest as far as I could see. Their retail outlet is the Waterfront shop in Cape Town.

Expect a bigger markup at the smaller stores like Digicape and Project3.

The 24" has a better spec....

24-inch widescreen LCD

1920x1200 resolution

2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor1

4MB shared L2 cache

1GB memory (2x512MB SO-DIMM)

250GB Serial ATA hard drive2

8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD+R DL, DVD±RW, CD-RW)

NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT with 128MB GDDR3 memory

Built-in AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0

Apple Remote

Well that makes sense - they're the country's primary importer. The majority of the other's buy from them and so you'd expect their prices to be slightly lower. Just like Telkom 'buying' their bandwidth from SAIX.

So which would be a better bet, 24" iMac or the MacPro?

bwana

So which would be a better bet, 24" iMac or the MacPro?Depends - what do you want to do with it. The iMac is a good consumer product the Mac Pro is directed at professionals.

So the best place would then be to buy from the ZA store then, not so?

Anyone have a URL for doing a spec on a Macbook Pro on ZA store?

I was disappointed they kept the 20" model the same apart from the processor.

It needs a better graphics card like the 24" has and that Superdrive is very troublesome. Apple customer forum is full of grumbles about it.

Apple seems to listen to customers but they respond far too late. A lot of people have been waiting for an update for the 20" (& the 17" I suppose). They waited for a long time but this release is disappointing.

The British get torn a new one too.

If you do a conversion on xe.com, the price of their 80GB is about R3588 (right now).

That model in the US costs R2570 :(

Is it just me or has that shop gone to the dogs?
Looks like a warehouse inside, and they've basically got no stock. At this rate they may as well close down and sell online.

It realy pisses me off when retailers are half-arsed about carrying decent stock levels.

Well I'm moving to the UK soon so maybe I'll follow your advice! :)What we usually do is order it before hand from Amazon and have it delivered to where we're staying. That way you can often avoid sales tax. In NY that's an extra 8%+ you're saving. :D

Completely off-topic, but when you say cheap flights from London to NY... how much are we talking?
