Bought a virgin starter pack last week, Followed instructions which didnt say anything about activating sim (read somewhere here about that?)
EDGE connects, but i cannot do anything online, and the only things i can ping are the 2 196.7.x.x dns servers
Plugged the sim into my phone and tried to call 123 but i get a recorded message saying my service has been suspended, pls call customer care. Now how exactly must i call customer care if when i try call them i get this message lol
Anyone have any advice? :)

Email customer support http://www.virginmobile.co.za/virgin-portal-customer/contactUs.do
or phone the support number from another phone. ;)

You can call customer care on 074123 from another phone, but its not worth the hassle, tried this forever and just got a huge bill with nothing to show for it. Try it once and if it doesn't work go to hellopeter.com

If you look carefully on the card that the sim came in you will see you have to dial *124*1*mobile number# DIAL. This will activate the SIM.
I also got caught with this.
after activation you need to make a chargeable call for the settings to be received.

I had a similar problem with my new service. Nothing worked *124 etc. It eventually took a visit to a different Musica to get it resolved. Appears that the original Musica branch was offline the day I bought the SIM and they never captured all of my details. Virgin SIMs are not pre-activated like the other networks (as a result of preparing for the new RICA act) and have to be activated initially by the seller. Then you can do all of the 124 procedures etc. If you call 123 or 074123 I am sure they may be able to assist, but I wasn't going to sit on the telkom phone paying for the call to try and get to the bottom of it all! Good thing too, since it too about an hour to resolve!
Finally got my data activated! thanks for the help guys, wasnt able to read it as my prepaid voda sim ran out of cash lol!
Did the 124 thing and waited a day, still nothing so called in and they said it looked fine on their side but they sent my details to the data guys who must have fixed something :)
