Hi All
I am really considering purchasing Guild Wars, but the problem is that I only have dial-up  . My questions is related to how it performs using dial-up and regarding the updating.
If you buy all 3 expansions will it lessen the downloads?
After reading many forum posts I often read about these huge 500MB updates  , were those huge updates only for those preview events for the new expansions?
What are the sizes of normal updates?
Can you play the game and let the updates run at the same time?
If for any reason you have to switch your pc off, does the updating continue where it left off when you go online again ?
Thanks
Stephen
Hi Stephen
The updates run while you play the game.
If you buy just Nightfall, the update on the disc is already fairly close to its current size which includes all 3 versions. It may be out by a couple of hundred megs or so. Updates vary, normally before you play for the first time they will be large.
Updates continue from where they left off if you switch off your pc.
I have actually played the game on gprs - while updating in the background, it was slow though but playable except loading new areas.
56k dial-up runs almost as fast as dsl while playing.
some useful info here as well.

Hope I answered most of the questions :)

I think the answer to the first question is "No". The Nightfall (chapter 3) disk seems pretty up to date. If you only by chapter 1, then you will be stuck with a pretty big update however. But buying chapter 3 (only) should mean a fairly small update.

He aint just talking about one chapter, he is talking bout buying all 3... you only talk about buying chapter 1 or only buying chapter 3... huge difference methinks...
I'm sticking with YES :D
And I'm sticking with the belief that the chapter 3 disk includes everything from the first two chapters that is still relevant for the gw.dat file. :D Buying the other chapters is in my opinion a choice about wanting to play them. To get purely an as up to date gw.dat file as possible, I think only the chapter 3 disk is needed.
Can't imagine not playing the other 2... I jump between chapters very often :p

I've been playing Factions over 56K (ABSA's ISP) for about 3 months. After being frustrated by the in-game updates, I began using a new shortcut with "-image" added, that I run overnight and on weekends. My DAT file is currently at 5Gb, but I have no downloads whilst playing anymore!
It's pretty sweet, although I wonder how Nightfall will be.

Yes, but his initial question was

not about the gw.dat file or what is relevant about it or how updated it is...
So the answer remains YES. :D :p The different campaigns have unique elite content in which does not feature in the other 2 campaigns, like SF (Prophecies), Urgoz & The Deep (Factions), etc....
