Oh woe is me

I have had it for a month now. The first few weeks, I was like a newborn , just finding my way about in this strange new world. Getting cussed and cursed at in the Co-op missions by 12yo Über veterans of GW. Being called the dreaded "n00b" word , cause I attacked the first target that came my way and didn't go for the marker or called target.

Then slowly with time came comprehension and understanding. Sadly to say not all the skills at once , but it's getting better.

No I have not completed it as yet, don't ask me such questions man. You see I have been playing the Factions & Nightfall Missions depending on my whim.

But now I am heading into overdrive, because I have accumulated the skills , platinum and weapons.

So now you ask what is the problem ?

Well you see - it's like this ;

When I wake up and drive to work - GW it's all I am thinking about.

I spend most of my time, when I should be working thinking of GW :D (our firewall has blocked most of the Games related sites)

In the afternoon , soon as I get home , kick on the PC (think I am going to have to setup the timer so that it's on when I get home from work.) and get ready to play , of course I at least take the regulation toilet breaks and try to have most of my meals whilst playin GW, except for that one 9 hour stint where I forgot to do either.

Even now when there is a lull during missions , I randomly go out to co-op spots , just to help others "lfp" - thanks to that picked up a couple of Gold items (who says a good deed never goes un-punished "tch" rewarded.).

Guild Wars - where has my life gone, what have you done with it ?

Bushi Anbu :) - look out for me ingame, I am there most of the time.

Good to hear you enjoy it so much, it really is an awesome game IMO. All 3 chapters.

I used to be like that with Championship Manager , get a fix in the morning before school, play like two weeks of the season in game.

Then after school again. Mom threatened to hurl my PC out the window.

Now GW is gonna ruin everything else, oh Hallelujah for Double + Triple drop wend , so guess see you in Elona this wend.

Oh , had a fabulous co-op team lastnight we got together in the Kormir Rescue Co-op Mission , after that we went onto 3 consecutive co-op missions in Elona. Got the masters reward as well, which was gr8 :D

It's rare for me to find such a succesful team and for everyone to be so geared, everyone was constantly saying , 1 more go , 1 more go. :)

Apart from one incident of them wanting to "Kick" the noob , which I said is not acceptable and them agreeing afterwards - hey sorry that the player was lvl 18 player in our group of all 20's , needless to say he leveled up quickly after that.

It was really awesome, I say we should all stand up and make certain that all players are welcomed and helped along, no matter what. Considering I was there before.

don't forget to add GW to the startup when your pc boots :P

I played so much GW that my once room-mate suggested that I had mine configured to run in the startup lol

Right now I'm really tired of people who have no idea what they are doing (in Domain of ????)

I must say missions like Urgoz which take 3 hours to play still draw my attention even tho I get quitters I keep trying... damn I must want that bow real bad!

What really drives me mad is the all powerful "I rule the world chaps" they just ruin the co-op gameplay, it needs to be a co-ordinated effort.

Running headlong into mobs and drawing them all at once. Lure and draw is a refined art form, it makes co-ordinating the effort so much easier. Instead of 8 players attacking 8 different targets. I also request we nominate someone to call target , immediately when we commence the mission.

It makes it easier for noobs to tag along , know what is potting. Yes I guess, it must be very painful for the seasoned campaigners when a n00b like mistake ruins the entire mission, but yes try and try again.

I am fairly new to GW , but I am enjoying it, it is absolutely fab. Makes a change from playin CS all the time. Also better than playing AOE 3 online , which is gr8 too.

This type of behaviour will get you pwned in the elite missions. You must coordinate and call targets. The game becomes very unforgiving in the masters and elite missions. ;)

You can also not play with your heroes / hench, you need real players in these missions, hence the teamwork and coordination.

It is exactly as I say , which irritates me immensely when these daft chaps just go chasing after anything and aggrevating the entire horde.

I think we should start a new thread called - "Back from the Dead" - Memorable Co-Op Missions.
Where everyone can mention their memorable saves in co-op missions and everyone else can add their own 2cents worth.

So , folks , anyone picked up some nice goodies over the wend in Elona.

Must say benefited already from some of my items. Managed to trade a Winged Wand of Memory 11-22 Dmg , Req 12 for a Fungal Wallow Mini Pet + 2000 Gold.

Which for my investment of 600 Gold for a Vabbi Key is well worth it.

Please don't tell how much it is really worth if I undersold it, I just don't want to know. I will "wallow" in my celebration at selling something in GW at long last.

Besides , tried to obtain pricing on Guru lastnight during the sale , and all I could get was that the Winged Wand of Memory 11-22 Dmg , Req 9 was selling for 12k so , I priced the Wallow at 5500 Gold and added to my 2000 Gold . It totalled up to 7500 Gold , which was fine for me for my first sale.

Can't wait for the "Wintersday" .

So folks , look out for the storage clearance thread coming soon.

IMO, you got the better end of the deal as that wand isn't worth much, based on the high req and the type of weapon it is. The guy you traded with must have really wanted the weapon for his class and/or wanted to rid himself of the low-end mini-pet.
But then again it all depends on whether the "Memory" inscription was max or not....
Let's call it even. ;)

oh well , so how was Christmas an Guild Wars ?

Folks just love in game trading , new fad now - a bit miffed that I don't have all the fab uber weapons and gear, not prepared to wait till End game , want to deal damage , chop, chop.

So speak to me ingame "Bushi Anbu" "New title" *Patrician* - :D

It was fun, probably only going off on missions this week , weekends are for trading and accumulating from now.

I never believed folks had so much in game money. Here I was content with my ol measly 20k . Read some stats the other day that said on ave 75% of all game accounts have under 20k ingame Gold. So I was glad to be above the ave.

All over 1 Chistmas period , I have set the wheels in motion for the most extensive in game trading alliance , wahhawahhh whaah :D

We buy all your wares and provide it to our now quickly expanding client base, they demand more and more.

So what you guys think of my new schpiel. Yes it all mixed and non-coherent, but that's all the adrenalin - beware the kick.

I want a new profession - Patrician. We take over the economies of ingame cities. Now I just love the sound of that - hey , it can be a new title then.

Think I will first go for the treasure chest title. Already 2/3's of the way there.

See ya on the Flip side - Speak to me at Lion's Arch , Kaineng City, Kamadan.

Why does one take leave in December ?

If you answered the following "To spend time on holiday or to visit with friends and relatives" well you would be ... so wrong.

Why of course to to play Guild Wars till you find yourself in a totally comatose and unconscious state. That was me after yesterday , eventually passed out after my significant other requested my to come lay down if only for a bit. Woke up sporadically 3 or so times, when some inconsiderate sods decided to call me and then hang up just as my dazed and confused self reached the daft phone. But eventually woke up at 5.50 this morning so , guess what ? Time for more GW.

Man , you just got to love this game. :D

Been trading so much of late, just had no motivation for going out on missions. That's what I love of this game , I can still interact without having to go out on missions and the. Made so many acquaintances in game which is nice.

I was encouraged to try to go on for playing Guild Wars for 2 days  without halt, but I fear it will cause some really hectic damage to my state of wellbeing. Oh yes I doubt my wife would approve either.

mm, still in light of my previous thoughts on establishing an ingame trade monopoly , I will soon be requiring the services of a programmer and website developer - so keep an eye out when this new opportunity arises.

Man , you just got to love this game. :D You have a very 'understanding' other? (Suppose she takes care of real life while you play?) Oh, that didn't sound right?! :D

really just wanted to say: you write good iDOL (I'm sure you compensate the wife in other ways.)

iDOL
02-01-2007, 07:31 AM
Yes I must say ,she is very understanding indeed.

Every so often we have to go on those bribe shopping sprees, it buys me time.

*ps note to clarify * She knew I was an addict when she adopted me, hopelessly addicted to pc games. Cs Source hasn't seen me in a while now, I wonder why ?. Where has all the "skillz" gone. You just have to laugh how she and my mom compared notes on how my addiction has progressed over the New years Braai.

Well, got a whisp from evilspinach ingame , was nice to receive one from a board member, added him to my friends list.

Well, after this weekend will finally go off on missions. I have been globe trotting all the continents, never progressing very far at all. Simply , because I play a couple of missions here in NF , hop on over to Kaineng and then move onto Lion's Arch. So from now , it will be a focused approach.

Factions 1st, Nightfall next and then Prophecies. I guess I am finishing it in the order of purchase and exploration status.

Just a friendly word to others - Guild Wars (for me) , apart from playing the game and progressing is about the online interaction it's the "fun factor" .
An ingame neighbour from Alberton took me on the run from Lion's Arch to Ascalon , in about an hour and he did this just as a friendly favour. I organised him a Rurik mini Pet at a super low price after I haggled with the seller and purchased it solely based on trust and when he came online , he re-imbursed me and was very happy with his cheapie Rurik.

I also received an offer from another "femme fatale" "A/N" female character to teach me how to Solo the bosses in Nightfall, it's about sharing the knowledge. Which for my 240 hours in 50 days old character is fabulous.

So for me , it's all about the friends you make. :D

Koss " Idiot meet hammer, Hammer meet idiot."

That's it for today
Ciao folks

I wish you luck with factions if you rely on human parties. Factions looks truly dead beyond Kaineng. I was in Cavalon and House Zu Heltzer the other night during a "peak" period. I was a 3rd of the population in Cavalon, and a 5th in House :D Maybe with the Winterfest over, it may see more players...

 Sabotage I tell , Sabotage.

The gremlins have attacked my laptop - it now refuses to boot.

I bought it just last week, I was too lazy to build my computer thast i had just bought , so it was easier to play using the new laptop.

Now , I am forced to build the other computer , whilst the laptop goes in to be checked. Bugger, Bugger, and more bugger.

So now only have limited play time , at least gave me some time to go to the range and pelt the living daylights out of sdme golfballs, the first time in 3 years.

Well lotsa luck in the GW Universe, I know I promised not to buy another mini pet, but at 3k for Varesh , how could I say no ?

Later folks, this is from a friends pc, i needed my fix , just to go on and see that my GW charactersare safe.

Now onto Nighfall.

Oh an another thing I think there are certain others on here , whom I see, also having a 2nd home in Guild Wars. I won't be naming names , but they know who they are.

Why didn't anyone tell me about the Alliance Battle thingy, I mean really now.
Luckily for me I was invited by one of my other GW buddies. Did I enjoy it!

Using it to accumulate Balthazar and other Faction Points now , skilling out the Heros for my onslaught on the Nightfallen.

Hey EvilSpinach, thanks for the offer, managed to get through the gate of madness. We managed to get through first time. But only after Shiro smacked me a couple of times with his impossible odds and battle scars, because of some over zealous team members.

Warned the Ele Nuker and Whirling Dervish to go easy and not charge Battle Scars or step back when he has impossible odds going. Do you think they listen , nnooo . Friendly fire whacked me left right and centre.

Oh well, maybe will meet up with you for knocking Abbadons block off.

Another thing , it's gr8 having actual player monks in your team except when:

They go Afk during crucial stages of the mission,
They stand so far away from you that their names are greyed out (and that's not just because they're afk),

So I take my trusty Dunkoro everywhere. He actually performed an awesome save in the Gate of Pain mission. Our human monk ign "Jelle" something , went awol. We were taking serious flack, half the team down already and the rest going fast , I flagged him away. Then slowly rezzed everyone else, I laughed seeing him in action keeping our Necro MM alive as well. "Go Dunk!" We got through it, thanks to good ol Dunk.

Abbadon tonight and then it's off to Prohphecies , Hero's and henches here we come.

All tired of waiting to compile the perfect recommended group from GW Wiki.

We went into Abaddons Gate, 4 wammos, 2 Paragons , 1 Dervish and Dunkoro. Mission Completed - Masters in 12.33 mins .

"Oh we're gonna die" , was the phrases uttered when we went into the mission. Well let's just have fun whilst we crash and burn , I said.

Reminding them constantly of our strat - Right , Left , Centre, and repeat.

Everyone was so pleased at having done it , it was really awesome . More so for me , seen as I had shopped 3 books of secrets for an ave price of 13k so it proved to be an even more profitable venture.

Coming soon to a store near you , "Good ol Dunk - The Diaries of a Hero & Savant."

iDOL

I would say , GW provides you with the opportunity to immerse yourself in a fantasy realm , similar to those that you' have always read about.

That is partly why I love it.

Better than having it in a movie, cause here it allows me to participate.

Althought I do still love my reading, vry addictive sometimes too.

At least , I am able to play GW on full 3g/HSDPA speeds which makes for a pleasant difference.

You know how as a warrior you're always having to equip both energy and adrenaline skills because there's never a point where both are ready and you have enough energy?

I've just come across this very nice Elite Stance which should eliminate that problem: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Warrior%27s_Endurance

So I'm going to reattempt one of the three pre-ascension missions this evening, perhaps one I don't have the bonus for yet, and cap this skill.

Anybody got a Zealous sword hilt I can buy? Should complement this stance nicely. :)

Edit:  Just had a look at the wiki for Dunes of Despair and it's apparently been completely nerfed by new wurm AI. Bonus will be hard.

Proposed team/strategy:
Me (tank)
Koss
Dunkoro (heal)
Tahlkora (protect)
Alesia
Lina

Defend Ghostly Hero until attacks stop. Leave Dunk and Tahlkora to protect GH from wurm sieges (stationed right on top of the GH they should be able to keep him and each other alive with Heal Area and Healing Ring). Take rest of party to kill generals. Achieve bonus. Cap skills.

Slightly revised:

Defend Ghostly Hero against first 4 waves of Forgotten. Leave Dunk and Tahlkora with hero to protect him from wurm sieges. Take rest of party East and take out wurm, then South and West for Enchanted/boss groups. Depending on how well Dunkoro and Tahlkora are performing against remaining wurm(s) bring one back to join attack force. Head South to kill generals. Achieve bonus. Cap skills.

oh rub the salt in the wound, well guess I need to be online tonight as well, in the GW Uni. Virgin has just rewarded me for playing GW making use of their network, they gave me an extra R80.01 so yes tonight I will be there.

alright .. so the bit about leaving a healer hero with the GH while you go off and kill things works a charm.. but .. the fact that you only have 6 slots in party and henchies are only level 17 means I can't kill things fast enough to take bonus.

I did however capture the skill I wanted. Fidius attacked us in the middle this time, rather than being one of the generals. Took an awful long time to die though.

Edit: Ended up managing to do the bonus using the necrotic traversal method. Annoyingly, when I tried to take a friend over to do the same thing, I couldn't aggro anything on the other side.

HHmm, interesting to hear about the new wurm AI. Haven't played this mission in yonks.

But I already played the mission like the described method quite a while back already, left at least one monk behind to heal the GH.

This mission has always been difficult with getting the bonus.

I also prefer MTN's 3G/HSDPA. Works a lot better, if not just more stable.
Played on Vodacom's 3G/HSDPA last night in Houtbay... which was fine till about 9pm, since then it was horrendous... 1000-2000ms ping.

He has inspired me, will dust off my copy of GW:EN and finally input the key.

Ye, it is true. My main pride and joy is my Necro, she has done each and every little quest and mission in all the 3 chapters and I am doing the same thing with EOTN. Am about 2/3's of the way through it. This progress was from the 1st 2 weeks after the launch, I haven't really played much EOTN again after that, otherwise would have been done by now. :)

She almost has half the game time spent on her alone, nearing 8mil experience and on her way to lvl4 of KoaBD title, so yes, got the Cart titles covered ;)

The SAIX proxy has a nasty habit of doing this.
It is transparent on the network, you don't even know about it... so not really anything you can do about it other than phoning them or your ISP to complain to them to fix it.
Or use another ISP that works ;)

Elyaradine
26-01-2009, 11:53 AM
Thanks. :P As of the end of December I started having regular connection errors too. (Code=007. Or alternatively I just get stuck "Connecting..." forever. This only ever happens when I'm switching areas, and only sometimes. GW support says I should check my router, but it was working fine for the first half of the NF campaign, and I went and forwarded the 80,6112 ports, just in case.) I've kind of given up on GW for a bit - which isn't necessarily a bad thing, given that lectures start again soon.

lilDeath
26-01-2009, 01:14 PM
This Code=007 error is far too common to my liking. :(

The scenario you are describing is making me think it may be a problem with your gw.dat file. I have had this very same problem quite a few times.
I maintain several copies of my gw.dat to make sure I can replace it when needed.

Basically it appears to me like ANet store some game caching information in the gw.dat file as you play, which can get corrupted if your connection is unstable / laggy or if you switch between several different network connections, like ethernet, wifi, mobile, etc. while keeping your pc online.

I would suggest trying to reinstall GW on your pc (not uninstall, just a reinstall, it will do a replace of you gwsetup file and the GW launcher, gw.exe).
If this doesn't work, replace your gw.dat file with another recent copy or simply delete it out of the directory and the content will be downloaded again when you launch the game.

BEWARE THIS DELETION / DOWNLOAD OF THE GW.DAT - this uses your bandwidth cap, so only do it if you have a high / available cap.
You can download all the content in one shot by doing gw.exe -image in a command prompt in the GW directory. You cannot play the game while this download is taking place and it can take a while if you have a slow connection. There are literally 10's of 1000's of files that will be downloaded if doing it from scratch, coming to about 1.5GB-2Gb of data for all 3 chapters and expansion in a compressed form.

Elyaradine
26-01-2009, 01:16 PM
Thanks, I'll try that.

I bought the Complete Collection, so thankfully reinstalling isn't such a big deal. :P Even though I don't have a backup copy, the DVD's .dat file's likely only several months old.

Ok, good.
An easy check would be to check the size of your current gw.dat file and compare it to the one on the DVD's.
The difference in size should give you an idea of how much data it is going to download.

My gw.dat is closing in on 4GB and I have all 3 campaigns + eotn and I have traveled everywhere in the game. Data gets uncompressed in the .dat as you unlock / travel to an area.

Yes, I've heard of those big ones and the only explanation I have for it is that the data is very fragmented / spread out in the actual gw.dat, causing clusters of essentially empty 'white' space.
All the people I know have these 3-4GB sizes tho.

I do maintenance on my gw.dat regularly and full -image downloads, which streams all the data and content sequentially into the gw.dat, making it more neat and properly organised.
At least, it's my theory and I'm sticking to it. :P
