If there were any doubt about the popularity of this franchise, here is the proof.

Some snippets from the press release:

"Breakthrough Game Series Hits Major Milestone as ArenaNet Announces Wintersday Festival and Exciting New Game Features"

December 13, 2006 (BELLEVUE, WA) — Fueled by sales of the hit game Guild Wars NightfallTM, the latest release in the award-winning Guild Wars® franchise, sales for one of the world's leading subscription-free online roleplaying games have surpassed three million units worldwide in a little more than a year and a half

Wintersday 2006 — Special in-game events have become fan favorites the world over, and during this holiday season Guild Wars players will be in for another Wintersday Festival!

Party Search — A brand new Party Search panel will be added to Guild Wars this December, which will allow players to more easily form groups.

And MY personal favorite: :D w00t!!

Reconnect After Disconnect — One of the most player-requested features comes to Guild Wars! If a player gets dropped from the game due to a connection problem, and that player can reconnect within ten minutes, the player's character will be relocated to the spot of disconnection.

We were chatting about this last night. This is a great new feature and will really help out a heap. A big example would be in our GvG's. During AGASA we had our famouse Agent 007, who also happened to be our monk, disconnect. That should have cost us the match but now it is just a case of quickly getting back in there.

I would love to see how it will actually work.

I mean if you are in party and you get a 007, they say your other party members also get a message to say you have been disconnected.

Now, if you manage to reconnect in the 10 mins, what happened to the rest of the party in the meantime? As in, they probably continued on anyway with what they were doing so when you reconnect and complete whatever you were busy doing, like maybe rezzing someone... ;) will you then complete it and fail (because no one is there and they have moved on) or will your party members be waiting for you there?

I seem to think your party would have moved on and you will just appear there, in space essentially, or maybe in the middle of a mob, which your party left there :D

Am also quite keen to see how the Search Party thing is going to work...
Will be cool if they are putting a mechanism in place that will look at the ingame chats for any LFP for a specific mission and then group them all together in an interface for you to quickly see who is looking for what missions...
maybe even include the members exp or titles and such, just to see how far the guy has progressed.

Interesting times! :D

The reconnect feature will be a gdsend. So many times I was just at the end of the mission/run with my team mates and then the dreaded 007 (shaken not stirred) rears it's ugly head.

I wonder what will happen if the mission is over and you try to reconnect?

I don't understand why the game wasn't launched with this reconnect system in place when it was launched? slowly GW is learning from WoW
