I’m a very proud supporter of local music…
I really think local music can compete on an international level, but… I feel that local music videos are “not up to scratch”!
I don’t think our artist have the budget to create videos with that “international look”. It’s a shame, but instead of looking at the negative, I want to rather focus on the positive…
Does anyone have any local music videos that they really like?
And are actually proud to call it Proudly South African?
youtube links would be great!

I shall refrain from commenting on the previous post.
I would have to say the local "rock" bands do a pretty good job, and they're generally my favourite

South African music is where Australia were at 20 years ago. SA sure has so excellent muso's on the scene right night, and some with huge international potential. Justjinger, Freshly ground (lead singer has awsome voice) to name a few can look forward to a life of international fame.
I agree with inital post about local videos, they do lack abit of the 'international feel', but that will improve.....

There is some good talent in SA (bar the one in your signature). However, unless we have a really good outlet for music videos (maybe a decent FTA music channel could do the trick), there really isn't a very stimulating reason to do music vids in this country - particularly if you are not a commercially viable artist or band that's going to have your stuff played on M-Net's Sound Check or SABC's gap fillers.
I would love to get a proper 24 hour music channel going in SA (for all and only South African bands and artists). Just don't get the funding and the local recording industry are to put it bluntly *******s and very sticky.

That would be so great! MTV Base should just be for local musicians. International artists have MTV!
If an artist was guarantied airplay for their videos, I'm sure local videos would improve dramatically. So at the end of the day I think it’s safe to say that it’s the SA media holding back our artists.
As for Jae, you can think what you want but she got some of the best “international quality” looking videos. I also think Danny K and Mandoza’s music video is very professional as well! Will look for some youtube links…

I love the production on this video, nice graphics... They must have paid a lot for this one...
Jae - I Like It

No graphics in this one, but I think its so filppin' cool the way the chair just moves along as she starts singing. How do they do that? I like the camera quality on this one.
Combined Danny's graphics with Jae quality - That's how our local videos should be!:)

Doing a search for Jae on google returned MyADSL in the top ten searches. Jae should pay MyADSL for advertising.

Jae is not quality. Quality is a U2 or Kylie vid.

My best Kylie video is "Come into my world". The one where she walks around the street and it just loops and loops... It's hot!

now you went and spoilt it...I was reading the thread and giving you credit for not going on and on about that jae thing, and then, tada, you went and slipped in a link to a jae music vid.
once bitten etc...
Here we go again, watch this video of Freshly Ground and tell me what is wrong with it, nothing!
They sell their music purely on their talent not on their looks. Personally its not really my type of music but i think what they do is professional and well done, the lead singer has an amazing voice.

I've never been so glad not to know who an artist is. Jae? wth...
On topic, the best SA music videos I've ever seen are the anime music videos at the Rage competitions. We've got some talented guys and girls here... They just need the material.

Tamara Dey is a bit chunky in the ass and she sounds annoying when she speaks.
If it wasn't for the fact that she is buds with Nicky Greenwall then I can't see who would put her on telly.

to death. but that was when they still had more than one decent dj.
Thanks for mentioning MK89, Nod. I was just about to say: "Hey, what about MK?" before my connection dropped earlier today. If you still count Seether (used to be known as Saron Gas) as a South African band, they have some great music and music videos, although they now reside in the United States. Shine4 is bad - please stop posting links to their music videos. They suck immensely. Words can not begin to describe how bad they are.
EDIT: Joe Niemand's band, "Niemand", also have some good videos and music. You can listen to their music and watch some of their music videos at http://www.niemand.co.za/

Oh! Now I get it! You guys kind of like it when talk about Jae. This topic is open to all SA artists, so why is everyone talking about her, when I only mentioned her once...? Let it go! Once again, back to the topic! I thought Prime Circles video for "Live" (I think it's called that) was really cool! They're in a field and theres fire around them... Anyone got a youtube link?

Everytime you post you speak about Jae.... and thats bad enough....
And if you're going to mention a decent SA band like Prime Circle, at least get the song name right... its "Live this life".... and no, we don't watch copyright infringing things like that on youtube...

Dave Matthews is not SA music... much as I would like to say he is. He was born in this country, but moved over to the states before he started making music if i remember correctly....

IIRC he skipped over to Murica to evade his National Service.

IIRC he skipped over to Murica to evade his National Service.Out of curiosity what was the course of action for those who had a religious/conciencious objection to National Service - Matthew's being a Quaker and all 'evaded' it by continuing his education. Was that a legit course of action at the time or was it illegal?

Prison i think.

You could study further, but only to a point, then you had to do your service. A lot of people that have studied, couldn't find jobs for practical, because companies knew they would be forced to leave again for two years. In the end you either had to go before you start to study or leave the country and hope they forget about you.
