Jeeze, guys, thats all you want to do is change the bloody team all the time. SA will never find a good team if it keeps getting changed.
I think Amla is more a test player. However, he is still young..
There is nothing wrong with test team you have now..
Damn. So Ahktar and Umar Gul is out of the SA tour.
I hope Asif has some backstop.

And we're back for the 3rd test.
3 changes in SA team. Polly and Nel rested. Boeta for Gibbs.
Go SA!

where is boeta? I mean that guy is perfect for tests yet he was put in the ODI squad last yr? I'd drop AB to 3 or 4 between kallis and prince depending if boeta goes early. try Smith on top again :( or let hall do it with boeta :p
If the two can stay in long till the ball wears it might give the pakistani's some hard things to think about.
Boeta and Smith are a cute couple, they work well together!:D

wtf is up with the pitch? looks like half of it was soaked in water?? and the large spots all over the outfield? There were complaints after the last match at Newlands, and now they produce this.. lol

i think the 1st 20 ov was 146 runs and last 10 ov was 146+ runs too  talk bout slaughtering the pace bowlers. Pakistan were only saved by their spin, else i am sure we'd have gotten 500. Still even tho some seem to be giving their wicket away in the pak team, if they play normal they will get close.

we need to break kallis and prince up. put in bouch or polly in between them. bouch had to play out of his skin to get us where we ended up, but it won't happen often.
this forum also seems VERY quiet these days.. as far as the cricket goes. Could it have anything to do with Smith getting runs

Hey Boodles, agree with you there, but you have to be able to back it up with consistent performances. As you said, he is still young and developing as a player.

Ricky Ponting - 32
Michael Vaughan - 32 / Flintoff - 29
Dravid - 34
Fleming - 33
Inzamam-ul-Haq - 36 (almost 37)
Mahela Jayawardene - 29
Brian Lara - 37 (almost 38)
And then Greame Smith is 26.

Problem is ppl don't get that...they want tame and gentle captains. Think Smith is a decent captain. He's learning and has shown some good decision making.
Problem with him is that he tries to score runs too fast. He loses some sense when he does that. If he corrects that then he'll score consistently.
Yesterday's performance was a mauling (so was Friday's). Don't know how the last two wickets can tell how poor we are at bowling out the tail though.
WonderBob
05-02-2007, 09:37 AM
I dont think yesterdays tail end batting by Pakistan means too much.
Malik is a good batsmen and Sami did very well. It was a very good pitch to bat on, and if you batted sensibly you should be able to score runs.
The ball was soft, Robin Peterson was bowling  and we have already won the game. If they were actually batting for runs at that stage, they would not have lasted long.

think we need to get back to earth here...doesnt mean we slaughtered the Paki's on Sunday that we will again. we did that to India thinking they would be a run over in the tests and they played very well in SA. But if Pak bowl like how they did on sun then we might get 500 this time around.

How much effect do u guys think the advent of the 20/20 has changed the way an ODI is played nowadays??
4 400+ scores in a calendar year tells a bit to it or has the game just evolved on its own?
Highflyer_GP
07-02-2007, 02:55 PM
Probably does have some effect, but I think that the game is constantly evolving based on the changes they make to the laws (for eg. powerplays etc.) and that's what seems to be responsible. Remember the time when 300 was the holy grail after they introduced 2 fielders outside the ring within the first 15 overs rule?

blackout in durban...well done Eskom. Good luck for 2010 when in the WC final the power goes out...so disappointing government is refusing to push for people to take responsibility. Eskom CEO just rakes in the millions at everyone's loss.
Durban Metro Electricity supplies the whole of Ethekwini Munic, and they get thier power through Eskom at 132kV and 275kV levels so why is it Eskom's fault now when the whole of the city was fine except the stadium?
Anyway poor bowling by the proteas!

So our plan of sabotaging the game by cutting the power didn't work then? :(

It's good that we lost. Got a feeling we were getting a bit complacent after the first game. Our bowling really needs to improve.
So SA was to confident again, and against one of the worst teams to be overconfident to.
Good game, but shows SA is not as good as they think they are when under pressure.
Smith lol, once again playing across the line and getting caught behind, is he ever gonna wake up?
Why didnt poor little Afridi get man of the match? Thats a bad call IMO.

what, the Proteas or the Eskom grid? :D
hahaha!!!!! both!!!!:D
uhmm... if the power didn't come on, the match would have been abandoned because only 19.4 overs were bowled... another two more deliveries and the old duckworth lewis system would've come into play... but no!!!! someone switched the lights back on!!!!

I think this should be a close game. Don't be too complacent and play sensibly. Maybe SA bowlers should bowl properly as well now.

me thinks pakistan won't be able to score a big score, but if they bat well in the middle order they'll get just below the par score else crumble to another low score.

This was a bigger thrashing than either of the 1st two games.
10 wicket win in both the Pro 20 and this ODI...nice! I'm with krycor, they just have to take this form through to the World Cup, win it, come home and win the International Pro 20 World Cup in September..

not really... was only like 220 runs scored in the entire game, and only 10 wickets fell the whole day... the most exciting part was the last three deliveries of the game:
3rd last, Smith gets his 50,
2nd last, AB gets his 50,
last, Smith whacks a six, and SA wins...
Newlands is becoming a fortress...
glad that there's two big video screens now... and that the mexican waves aren't like the ones down under...:D

LOL have a look at the pakpassion.net forum, no matter how badly Pakistan always consistently loses, they always insist that Pakistan is the best team and they'll come back strongly in the next match. Daft I tell you.
lol checking the aussie forums after the 438 game was priceless...I guess the paks can't lose hope now H_GP..WC time and they need to get behind their no matter how **** they play....even if they do get 160+ run, 10 wicket and 9 wicket paki'slae :) from us...
