Here are 3 Word docs that we got for the connection types and also how to configure the firewall if needed. Please note that this is very basic manuals, but we will be looking at all the different problems over the next few weeks. I connected my Xbox 360 through my Billion router no problem. Connected through ethernet, haven't changed any firewall settings etc, everything is pretty much default. I am using ADSL unshaped connection though, I think that makes a big difference, probably find that some ports are shaped.

Here are 2 questions out of a previous thread:

1.Q: Does the UPNP have to switched on or not?
A:In our test environment the UPnP was enabled so that will be a yes.

2.Q: Does RIP V1 and V2 have to be enabled for the XBOX 360 to be able to connect to the internet?
A: RIP setting should not be effective in this case so enabling it is not necessary.

Hi Guys/Gals

Finally started playing around with my XBOX 360.... When i ran the diagnostics on the Xbox, I saw that under NAT option it told be the connection was moderate and I could not connect. So I then proceeded to forward the relevant ports to the Xbox and bam, Bob's ur uncle. Conclusion; I had to forward the ports on the router (7401VGP) for the Xbox to be able to connect to the Internet and also had 2 make up a UK "account" otherwise no go. Will test the others tonite and see what happens.

Just a questions from my side:

I see that when i connected the Xbox to the net it downloaded a update, this I can understand but when I put Need for Speed (Example) in it also asked me for an update, when I declined the update it disconnected me from Xbox Live. :eek: So went back and said yes for the update and then it worked just fine. Now..... Must I do a update for all the games that I want to play on Xbox live before it works and also how big is the updates normally?

Any other tips or info you guys have please post it.

The first time you connect your Xbox to Live! it will download an update for the Xbox 360 itself. This can take between 5 - 30 minutes depending on your connection.

Everytime you buy put in a game it will check if there is an update for that game on Live!. If it does have an update you will be asked to download the patch. If you decline you will be disconnected. This is done for many reasons one being cheating. If someone finds a way to get an advantage in a game they will patch it and force you to download it if you want to play online.

It can be frustrating when you have just connected to Live! because every game will have an update available. However once you have downloaded the patch which is generally small (not sure on exact sizes though) you normally won't need to download a new one for a long time.

I got the Xbox360 Wireless Adapter and had endless hassles connecting it my Netgear router using WPA-PSK encryption ... it worked with WEP 128 bit but failed the ICMP test.

Eventually enabled wireless on my ADSL modem and turned off wireless security had the Xbox do a PPoE link to it.

Worked like a charm.

I have a Linksys wireless router/gateway and connected my son's XBOX via Ethernet without a problem. Basic firewall without any specific settings.

That was before he got the "ring of death". No use in connecting a brick to the internet!

I own a Linksys wireliess router/gateway and connected my son's XBOX via ethernet. Worked first time, no changes to the firewall or anything.
My first Linksys was knocked out by lightning, took it to Westcon so that they could quote me on the repair costs. They replaced it free of charge with the latest and greatest model. I was really blown away, never expected it.

My first Linksys access point was stolen and then I tried to convert the spare router to an access point with no luck.

I think linksys are fantastic but Billion put together a manual for Xbox connectivity which scores them extra points in my book :D

Reading what I posted again now I can see how it can look bad. Linksys are also a fantastic company.

Im having major frustrations. My NAT is always moderate. I have the telkom 4meg dsl line which is of course shaped and the free router they are giving away these days. I'm not much of a network technician. So please can anyone help me with making my NAT open? Never mind the INSANE mother-loving Lag i get... frustration. Cant remember the name of my router...
